Should have got out of sight and called the cops (and said you think you might have seen a gun, to make sure they turn up). Then they have to respond.

Well he was just out of the forces (RAF I think) and had sank a few beers. He said he had the action film vision in his head, on being able to take a few guys on. Big mistake.

Wow, you could have been killed youre lucky they didnt have a knife or something :/

Its sad to see someone get beaten up but because of the risk these days I just call the police, leaving it and not doing anything isnt right but getting involved how you did was stupid, brave but stupid.
Happened to me loads too; you save someone and they say "what the f you do that for", funny thing was he got jabbed 3 times on his chin and dropped heh, others call you names, etc etc

I stopped a guy beating his GF up outside my moms house

He turned on me and we started scrapping, all was going well untill the GF whacked
me round the back of the head with one of her shoes

Best thing to do is walkaway so many good deeds involving drunken people
and trying to help them ends in grief

Jesus would have though the gf would be thankful  :/

Hats off to you, too many people say and do nothing in this day and age.

I did something similar at university but the guy thanked me. I felt bad about smacking one of them though.

This is why I will refuse to help anybody in the future, with the exception of the elderly.

Too many people will sue you for the first reason they can dream up, and even more people would be ungrateful of any help.

The ultimate solution:

Say you saw a fight, 6 guys beating up one solitary guy. You, being Mr Nice, intervene. You pull off the 6 guys using your manliness and they FOAD into the night--hooray!

You turn your attention to the poor sod on the ground, wondering how bad his injuries are when.......

........he hands a right hook on your chin whilst ****** and blinding at you.

What should you do?

Answer:
Beat the **** out of the "poor sod". With his attitude, he probably deserved the kicking he got in the first place. By you stepping in, you have messed up the complex social equilibrium that is present in such places in society.

Hahahah, more like the armed police would turn up and shoot them all dead "mistaking" a can of beer for a hand grenade or something

I saw a piece on the BBC West Midlands news about a woman who called the police after seeing a man in the street with a rifle. He'd fired it a couple of times. She called the police. They didn't turn up for two days. Apparently they knew who the guy was from her description and decided he wasn't an immediate threat. Sure...

Wish I could find a link to the artice.
