I'm massively interested in evolution and have read several books on the matter - the most recent being 'The greatest show on earth' by Richard Dawkins.

Does anyone seriously believe that evolution is anything but stonecold fact, I mean as factual as the fact that the sky is blue? Apparently 40% of Americans reject evolution and think that the earth was created around 6,000 years ago, by god. I just don't understand how you could think like this?

Discuss!

I guess those who choose to believe in God struggle to see how, a small particle evolved into so many different things. And not just things, perfect things.

They're not perfect, they've just had thousands of years to adapt to their environment. Give it another few hundred thousand years and they'll be even more adapted to their surroundings.

But I guess religious types would see that as a sign of Gods' (or God's?) constant work on his/her/their creations, and not just evolution.

"The sky is blue" is an observation. One that's certainly dependant on the observer. The sky most certainly isn't blue at sunset.

Evolution is a scientific model. It's a model devised given the available evidence we have the moment. It most certainly isn't a "fact" in much the same way that mavity isn't a fact, and that wednesday isn't a fact.

I kinda wonder if humans will stop evolving as we can develop technology to do what evolution previously did for us.

When you say Evolution, do you mean Natural Selection?
I was thinking the other day, Evolution is not an inherent driving force within living creatures, yet it seems to get described as such.

Evolution by Natural Selection is not observable, repeatable, or refutable and thus does not qualify as scientific fact. It is a theory for these reasons. Doesn't mean it is not true though. Most scientific theories are accepted as true, if they can be supported by observation and experiment. Evolution is a fact however, it it the theory of Natural Selection that explains it that is the theory.

I can 't remember where but I once read something along the lines of: technological advancements are actually a part of natural evolution, rather than biological being replaced by technological, one is simply an extension of the other.

Quite interesting really.

Show me one Perfect thing?
