I heard about this loads of times and its been in the making for ages. The studio even held it back for Fast & Furious Sequal. I'm not a BIG fan boy of the original but I do like it a lot and it looks like new on blu-ray.

The plot sees the scientists working at an isolated Antarctic outpost who discover something entirely not from this world. Trouble is, the creature has the ability to mimic any living being and is soon spreading fear and paranoia among the team.

With a cast that includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Eric Christian Olsen and Adewale Akinnuoye-Abaje, The Thing will attempt to overcome the inherent silliness of calling a prequel by the same name as the film it’s meant to be leading into, and stalks our cinemas on December 2.

original was a classic imo, ill watch this but i dont think it'll be anywhere near as good.

been watching this for a while, was originally planned as a sequal, chopped and changed directors/writters then changed to a prequal, so fingers crossed i guess

Looking forward to this. played the game ages ago !

Have you seen the original? You should definitely check it out.

I'll probably watch this, eventually, but I think it goes without saying that it won't be a patch on the original. The special effects in that film were incredible, they still are.

Not sure about Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Her "acting" skills might not be apparent if she's wrapped up in Arctic gear throughout the movie :D

If true then I'll almost certainly pay to see this in the cinema. Fingers crossed.

Yeah I've just been reading, there will be some computer generated graphics for some of the creature extensions and the external graphics and sets. The same people/company that did District 9. :D

The Thing is an alltime favourite of mine. I can't see this working but it does sound like the director is trying to be faithful to the '82 movie in terms of story, production design etc He's even said there will be very little cgi, it's a shame they didn't get Rob Bottin onboard though.

There was Very little CGI in the 82 version, it was more like stop motion??

It clearly proves that you dont need any CGI at all to make a film scary!

IIRC the film was due for release the end of last year but early screenings were not successful so they went back for re-writes and re-shoots. This is what I've read anyway.

It's either terrible and no manner of edits will save it or someone with an ounce of sense rebuilt the whole thing into a reasonable prequel.

I believe it's the Norweigan team and what happened to them - I guess it ends with them chasing the dog to the US team.

meh, I wont get my hopes up...

The original is one of my all time favourites too, the sequence with them testing the blood with the hot wire has to be the epitome of how to create suspense in a movie.

Will be watching it, I'm hoping it'll be really good. If not it's got Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it, but with out the coloured hair like in Scott pilgrim. Shes hot, but with pink hair omg.

I will have to watch it, like many others the 82 movie scared the poop out of me, especially the scene where the doc is about to resuss the alien and his chest burst open and bites his arms off.
