The time has (maybe) come...

The point is that you don't need deep pockets with an RSV; they are as reliable as most Japanese bikes. The only thing to go wrong in my entire ownership was a speed sensor which failed just after I bought it - I replaced with an industrial proximity sensor for a few quid and it's worked ever since.

May be reliable, but they're generally more expensive to buy.
Funny though, I really like the RSV and Tuono (twins not new v4s).

You'd be surprised how little you can pick up the older shaped ones for. There's plenty of choice under 2k, and quite a few go for under £1500. Obviously to get a really nice you need to up the budget a little, but not much.

Are there any triumph street triples in this price range yet? that would be my choice for the requirements.

I wish!! :(

Nah I've been looking at these recently and the cheapest ones are around the £3,500 figure, there's one for £3,400 on MCN at the moment (57 plate), however I'm not a fan of the early dials so I'd want a later model with the newer style dials (with the speedo on the rleft rather than in the tacho) which are 09/10 onwards I think.

OP - an Aprilia Shiver might be just about in budget, sort of... but then tbh you're still probably looking at best part of £3k for one.

There's loads of interesting stuff around the £3-4k mark, KTM 950 SM, aprilia Dorsoduro etc. but at £2k you're limited a lot more.

My shortlist of bikes at around the £2-3k (ish) mark is:

BMW F800ST
FZ6 Fazer S2
CBF500
Sprint ST 1050
Hornet
CBR600F
Street Triple
Shiver 750
KTM 950SM

Might give you some ideas.
