The Trust System

I presumed they did it because then the person emailing does not get the others email address unless they reply to them. Keeps spam/unwanted contact down!

^^ You can add people to your ignore list with the PM system so if you don't want contact from somebody then you block them (a bit like MSN). Anyway I do agree that I think it's a bit daft not having the PM system enabled the has 91,000 members and there are plenty of biggers who have it enabled. It could be set so as people with x amount of posts could only use it such as people who use the members market.

I've never understood why this forum doesn't have PMs enabled. It can't be that much of a server load surely seeing as every other forum seems to cope pretty well with them enabled.

I imagine it's a measure to prevent people exchanging competitor details.

Unlikely, you could easily do that via trust mail and other retailers who have forums all have their PMs enabled. I guess for a retailers forum this is one of the largest (if not the largest in the computer industry) and therefore as they are paying for it out of their own profits, server load its more of a cost issue. So anything they can do to keep the costs down is a good idea.

The hamsters running the forum fall over relatively often as it is, I don't think they could handle PMs as well.
