Can anyone recommend any of the Tycoon games - or other titles in the genre.

I bought Sim City 4 Deluxe on impulse in the Steam sale, but reading reviews they all say it's really complex and in depth. I'm after a fairly casual\fun, pick up & play empire building game.

I read in another thread about Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and it sounded ideal, but it's not available on Steam and 3 is supposed to be a bit more complex and not as much fun.

sim city 4 is good fun and not that complex really, roller coaster tycoon 3 is great casual fun. 3 is probably even more casual than 2.

RCT2 is far superior to 3 imo. They went 3D and it lost its charm for me.

Trying to think of another tycoon type game that i've got as immersed in but none come leaping. Obviously Railroad Tycoon is great fun but it didn't grab me like RCT did.

Sim City 4 is amazing. The ones made by Maxis are better than the crap EA is spewing out now.

Zoo tycoon was really good. rollercoaster tycoon. Monopoly tycoon was decent, nothing special though.

Isn't there an open source version of Theme Hospital in the making?

yus. It actually uses the assets from the original and is being re programmed in LUA so that you can play it on a modern PC without your eyes bleeding.

Frankly Theme Hospital at 1080 is sweeeeet. I just hope it might spur others on to do something similar with things like the original Commandos games.

I find Transport Tycoon horrendously difficult :( Always lose all my money building an expensive train track :p

SC4 is VERY simplified IMO, much more so than earlier games. RCT is the most absorbing of the lot though.

Your build orders are wrong then :D. Start with passengers and coal. Keep going!

I also bought Sim City 4 recently but haven't played it yet.

I've tried it twice in the past and I find it impossible :(

You gotta start out with the very very basics. Low income housing cheap sources of power. No schools or anything like that for a long time. It's difficult, but once you get going, you get some amazing cities :)

I think that's where I've gone wrong, I've tried to expand too quickly. Any decent guides on how to get started around?
