OK, I'm not sure if this is going to work or not but its worth a shot :D
My idea was to create a thread where we can create a PC from cheap parts found across the net. Obviously, just listing the name of the part + price if not from OcUK. Then I will add some parts that people have posted to this post (and make sure they are compatible) so we can all create a super-cheap and fast PC for people like students and the unemployed :)

Dont want to sound ignorant here, but is there effectively trying to establish the parts that would make up the spec of a "cheap" pc ?

Or is it trying to establish parts that are the best value for money wise ?
Its kinda vague, especially as peoples interpretations of "cheap" is very subjective.

Maybe we could do one of each? One thats not-so good but really cheap and one that is great but for as cheap as people can get it

wow very nice :) now if other people look around for similar, cheaper parts (if possible) we could end up with a very cheap and cheerful machine :D

now for the highend machine for as cheap as possible....

That Tagan won't work with the mobo without an adaptor as it only has a 20-pin power connector.

Swap it for an Antec Basiq 350w £25.84

and drop the ram to Crucial 1gb (2 x 512mb) ddr2-5300 £25.84

That'll shave a further £36.42 off the price.

edit - Craig, the board has a built-in Via chip. It won't set the gaming world alight, but then that isn't what this system is for :p

£350 will get you a Athlon64 X2 4000+, 320GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, DVD writer, Vista Home Premium and 20" widescreen display from a certain brand beginning with D. Very nice machine, got my Mum one just recently and it's an absolute bargain.

That abit might also not work with the e2140 since the most recent bios is from back in January.

edit - it does have a graphics controller, quoted from the specs on the abit webby:

"Integrated VIA® UniChrome Pro 2D/ 3D Graphics & Video Controller"

Updated screenie with suggestions, reasonable for £220, not sure on the processors compatability , but its only an additional £21 to an allendale/ £54 to a conroe.

If your looking for a high-end quad-core, with 22"inch monitor for the value for money then i/you guys helped me to create one for I think £1050ish...or maybe less......
I can look it up if you want.

That really is impressive for £175, and itd probably be a pretty capable pc too, know what ill buy if i randomly need a budget pc.

well, i must say this. I've just spent the last 10-15 minutes getting the same (or similar) package on competitors sites and i'm glad to say that OcUK are the second cheapest! the cheapest is only in the lead by a few quid aswell, but OcUK do have better delivery time and return times :D

Three cheers for Spie tbh :)
