I'm struggling to see a market for these. They cost more than a console, so I can't see them appealling to that crowd. Since if you were bothered about visual and audio quality then you'd game on a PC. PC gamers would more likely prefer an add in sound card and a quality wired headset.

you would be surprised, the Razer Chimaera 5.1 is £160 and its our best selling Razer headset by a mile.

for someone looking for a headset that works with everything easily, this is the best bet.

the wireless capabilities of it are good, I have tried this and the Wrath and they are both fantastic sets.

So they're another stereo headset with built in DSP turning the sound into "5.1" or "7.1".

Now as an ex sound engineer I'd like someone to explain how it is possible to turn 2.0 into 5.1..........???!!! No exactly

I wont pretend to know how it works. Just that it does. The best real world evidence I ever had was the first time I used the Dolby Headphone Music preset on my Essence ST.

At my pc I have two fairly decent speakers on stands at ear level, fed by a decent stereo amp via the sound card. I've got some music playing at a fair volume, but nothing that would rile the neighbours, I put on my headphones(akg 702) and switched it over to the headphone amp and Dolby Headphone with the Music preset. It was frightening, no hyperbole involved. The music wasn't coming out of the headphones, it was BLASTING out of the speakers. I panicked and and whizzed the jog on the amp down.
Nothing happened. It was coming out of the headphones. So I turned the headphone volume down and sat a bit wide eyed and slacked jawed, then I started switching dolby headphone on and off like it was sort of voodoo.

So if they can take the sound from headphones and shove it out in front you to such a wonderfully effective degree, getting some positional sound out of a game isn't that much of a stretch.

Keep in mind that I'm a bit of a "sonic purist" and don't mess with EQ or any of that stuff and like to keep it as intended, maybe to a fault A born pessimist with the exact opposite of expectation bias, I don't think £100/m speaker cable with give my music an oaky timbre and I don't think extending 2m of the national grid with a cryogenically frozen power cord will give the mid range more life. Snake oil and I aren't best buds.

I do have some "noob" console gamer friends :P... and they would certainly shell out some money to pay for this.

I'll stick to a Xonar DX and Sennheiser PC 360 headset. Costs less and incredible quality.

It doesn't turn 2.0 into 5.1, ignore the sales blurb. It turns a 5.1 source into stereo.

I don't know how this exact pair work. But Dolby Headphone adjusts the phase and volume of each driver to create a sound experience more akin to how your ears actually work (rather than cramming more small crappy speakers just in front and behind your ear like 'true' 5.1 headsets). Dolby Headphone works exceptionally well.

You've only got two ears, this is how they work to hear directional sound normally.

You'll never turn stereo into 5.1 as 5.1 is 6 channels. You can't just split stereo 3 ways to make 6 channels. You can fake it cleverly however (Creative's CMSS works brilliantly for music and games IMO).
