The Unofficial Fallout 3 Thread

love the weapons in this game. Heres what i rotate between so far

Shotgun (either sawn-off or combat) like to keep it handy for close encounters.

Laser Rifle + Pistol
Chinese Automatic Rifle

10mm Submachine Pistol thingy (munches 10mm ammo fast but its quite sexeh so no worries)

Fatman (if i want someone put down fast and just coz it looks good)

Melee

Shishkabibab
Ripper

both of these are immense fun. Setting folks on fire with sword and chainsawing into the mothers as well...I ONLY WISH I COULD DUAL WIELD THESE BABIES :D legs, arms, heads go flying everywhere! :D

It would also be cool if all your weapons appeared on your body instead of only the one which you have equipped.

lol are you serious? I would look like an armory, I wouldn't see anything bit weapons, I have:

  • Pistol
  • Laser Pistol
  • Laser Rifle
  • Hunting Rifle
  • Fatman
  • Flamer
  • Missile Launcher
  • Chinese Auto Rifle
  • 10mm machine gun
  • Grenades
  • Pulse grenades
  • Frag mine'
  • Pulse mines
  • Minigun
  • Sawn off shotgun
  • Combat Shotun
  • Scoped Magnum
  • Sniper Rifle

ohh yeah i forgot about the bottlecap mines, nades, and magnum :D

dont bother keeping sniper rifles, hunting rifles or missile launchers tbh just sell em on.

Sniper Rifles are amazing, taking brutes out from a distance with sneak, headshots saves a lot of time if you're a sneaky type character...

I mainly use named Plasma Rifle coupled with Tesla Armour. Have 100 Energy Weapons skill so I can take most things out pretty quick.

I always enjoy running into raider camps and watching their bullets bounce off me.

Damn this game is awesome. I'm finding myself just wanting to do EVERYTHING. (I think the achievements help a little bit) But I'm also totally in love with the setting. Fantastic game.

My fav weapon is my hunting rifle 'ol painless which i got from dave at the republic of dave. Same as a standard hunting rifle but it fires and reloads a lot faster :)

Sorry about the spoilers posted earlier - my bad, I changed the colour but forgot to put the obligatory spoiler alerts.

Finished the game a couple of days ago - one thing that wee'd me off was the fact that it didn't carry on afterwards, so I've reloaded an old-save and am now wandering the wastelands completing all the side quests on the hard setting. And by far the best person you can have as a teammate is Fawkes - he acts as my packhorse and is virtually indestructible, saved my bacon a fair few times :D

And by far my most favourite weapon in the whole game is "The Terrible Shotgun" - one shot kill if you get up close on even the toughest opponents. Though the FatMan does help for those long range kills :D

Still haven't made any of my own weapons though :( Desperately want to find the schematics for the RailSpike Rifle - any one know the location for them? Or better still, who to steal them off? :)

Aye that is an awesome weapon - would be nice if you could mod it further like in previous games, add a laser scope, pack it with explosive rounds etc

Not sure if it's been mentioned in the thread earlier but while exploring for a few hours I found what is probably the best weapon in the game, it uses a special type of power cell so you're limited to the ammo you get with the blaster which is about 120, it may not sound like much but this gun can take out almost anything with one shot.

The blaster can be found in the wreckage of "Recon Craft Theta" which is northwest of Greener Pastures Disposal, when you're close by you'll be able to pick up a radio beacon from it.

Here's a pic showing the location

I love it when you decide to go exploring and stumble upon something like this :D

have only made 2 weapons so far: bottlecap mine and shishkibab

one little complaint i have with Fallout 3 is the underground areas are a little underwhelming and use repeated layouts/textures..

I'm gonna go hunting

As per my previous comment regarding Fawkes being the best NPCC - it went a bit awry yesterday - I walked in to the Armory in Megaton which was closed, the robot shot me, and then Fawkes rained down merry hell on every single inhabitant - it now has a population of one, me :(

Did make a cool 7000 caps off selling everybody's stuff tho.

Same sort of thing happened in Underworld - the Ghoul hunting the keys opened fire, and Fawkes took out everybody :(

Oh, and Paradise Falls the same happened there too - maybe time to rethink my strategy with Fawkes :p

Does anybody know of a better armor than the Brotherhood's Power Armor?

The best armour in the game is found at Fort Constatine and is T51-B Power Armour. Its awesome. Although you need all 3 keys from the quest that Mr. Crowley sets you to get it.

Finished the game the other day and loved every minute of it, am tempted to play through again as a bad guy its that good.

Perfect cheers - there goes my night :D And yours from the sound of it :p Haven't seen my mates in ages and my girlfriends put me on the missing persons list, just hope I get bored of it soon!

Couple of questions about the game. I have it, but its still shrink-wrapped with not having enough time to touch it.

How large is the game world compared to Oblivion? Also, how much is there to do in comparison to Oblivion? I take it there are "caves" to raid, but there were loads of other things such as making your own potions from collecting flowers, etc.

Also, how long can the game go on if you do all sidequests and stuff and not just the main quest? I know in Oblivion I finally finished the main quest 100 hours in cause I was always wandering around, etc.

What is the interface/inventroy like compared to Oblivion?

I know the game is not really like Oblivion, but I need to use it as a comparison to get an idea.

There is absolutely stacks to do. Undergrounds play the role of caves. The interface is much improved over Oblivion.

Fallout 3 > Oblivion

I could never much get into Oblivion, it was too slow and cumbersome and the 'mystical' storyline was never much to my taste. Fallout 3, however, gives a great take on the post-apocalyptic world, mixing humour and realism with great skill. However you may well prefer the mystical world of Oblivion to the nuclear holocaust provided by Fallout, only you'll be able to decide.

However I can say that gameplay wise, Fallout 3 surpasses Oblivion hands down. Though I suppose you'd want that after a few years passing :)

To give an idea of time: I'd finished the main quest after 30 hours of gameplay, and then I was struggling to find any more side quests.

Though I then found that simply wandering around the wastes provided as many quests as I could handle. Fast forward a couple of hours (well, to 50 hours played) and I got the 'Explorer' perk which marks every location in the game world on to your map, and I realised I wasn't even half done.

Your best bet is to watch a couple of video's to whet your appetite, and then read a few reviews which are pretty much all giving it 9+ out of 10.

In fact, if you have it in your possession, pick it up and play it. I guarantee within a couple of hours you'll be hooked :)
