Hey,

This isn't a thread about ongoing increases in utility bills etc but the business itself and the effect it seems to have on people.

Around my local town a lot of people I know have joined up to work for them and I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed that it seems to take normal people and spit out brain washed drones.

It's the Star Trek equivalent of the Borg! I've made joke comments about it being a cult on facebook and had basically the same conversation with 5 or 6 of their reps and they all seem to blurt out the same material. I swear they don't even understand it.

Joke it's a pyramid scheme and you get told how it's a network marketing business and how there's no one at the top like there is with a normal structured business etc. They seem to deny anyone is unhappy even if you know unhappy customers.

Has anyone else experienced this UW collective??

its a company that promises to save you money on utilities, and to be fair sometimes they can, but it's the effect it has on people that concern me.

Or I just know a LOT of really weird people :p

At my old uni flat, our utility bills including internet went through them (all inclusive in rent). Internet was really TalkTalk and due to this "rising cost" in our bills, it ate £130 into our flat deposits :(. So, yeah avoid!

Scottish Power still have a fixed (until May 2014) rate tariff up that hasn't already had 10% added to it. It'll go any day now. Probably a better bet than any unfixed tariff, as they're all likely to increase ~10%. I phoned my current supplier and they offered me a fixed rate 15% higher than the current standard rate, so they're clearly expecting that level of increase within the next 18 months at most. So I switched to Scottish Power.

When I got made redundant in 2007 I was invited to a UW meeting in Sandbach and I sat there gobsmacked at all the easily led people.
It reminded me of a cult even though I've had no experience of a cult except TV documentaries.
I ended up walking out after an hour.

Yeah I had an old boss who got sucked in.

With all things like this you just have to ask how do they pay the middle man and can't you just find this information out yourself. However you have to remember the majority of people are stupid

Utility Warehouse is MLM, so that you earn commission by selling it to your friends and family.

First thing they will tell you to do is to write a list of all the people you know and thei tel numbers. Then they will call them up.

UW works best, as any MLM, if you conscript people in, who then you make a cut out of their activities.

edit: I hate MLM

oh no. not herbalife. selling their overpriced supplements and the only way to fund it is to then sell it to your friends & family.

usually your friends become not your friends

They are on the verge of becoming de-friended on Facebook, not that I use it that much but it shows how annoying it is.

My goodness, I've heard of these people.
Years ago when I worked in Ikea someone left these cards ALL over the store.

I didn't know it was any cult like crap though!

A customer at work started going on at me about it once - I don't remember how he managed to bring it up but it was a really tenuous link.

'Ah, speaking of cactus seeds, my phone bill is £15 a month cheaper since I joined Utility Warehouse'

'you what'

they are awful. i worked in retentions for a telephone company, and youd get customers leaving to them, and id say "what have they offered you?" and the answer wuld be "23% off"
"23% off what?"

"er...."

terrible company.
