Garden - it's just over 41m in length, 5m wide but there are lots of trees and bushes which are taking up a lot of space so need to sort them.

Pictures don't do it justice, it's ridiculously big.

Kitchen / dining room - open plan so nice and big.

Pulled up the carpet in here today and the floorboards are decent. Few holes here and there so we'll have to replace them but it's decent.

Some nice tiles as well were hidden away.

Bathroom - Technically shower room as there is no bath at the minute. It'll do for the time being.

Back bedroom - We'll have this as the main bedroom.

Front bedroom - Has a length long ceiling heigh mirror fronted wardrobe built in. So we'll be using this as a dressing / guest room.

I'll try and get some pictures of the front room and the 3rd bedroom / study tomorrow.

Everything is pretty much good, just general sprucing up needs doing really.

Main goings on at the moment are:

  • Removing wallpaper from front room & 3rd bedroom / study. It's some horrible textured stuff. Really thick stuff but luckily they had the rooms skimmed before they put on it a couple of years a go and no plaster has come off yet.
  • Removing carpets from all of downstairs, inspect the floorboards, sand etc. Unsure if we'll laminate in the dining area to go with what's already in the kitchen.
  • Need to get a sparky in. Front security light doesn't work, need to sort out a rear outside light(s) and sockets. Front room, study and main bedroom only have 1 double socket in so need something sorting there before we paint.

There's a pantry room to the side of the front door which has been plumbed up for a washing machine so we'll make use of that. There's a outbuilding with a toilet in one part and coal store the other. Unfortunately the toilet doesn't work so will need to check out the plumbing at some point but we'll probably just use it as a wash room or something.

Any way that's it for now. In work all this week, week after we're away on holiday, got a van for the 31st to move our big stuff (sofa, bed, dressing table) from our flat so going to be a little busy this week with the flooring downstairs. Tenancy ends 17th November so got quite a bit of time before we have to move properly but the holiday will eat into a lot of it!

Got this today though, I look forward to using it.

Looks like a lovely house with plenty of potential :)

I'd personally focus on making the interior yours over the winter months and start on the exterior Spring/Summer. Not a fan of the green paint in the kitchen ;)

I love the pic of the Back Door.

Will you use that a lot ?

Yeah hopefully. We've lived in a first floor flat for 2 years and we've been craving a garden so we're really looking forward to it.

We're going with the lime green (right one), but I basically have no final say over the paint apart from in the the study. :o :D

Lime green on all walls? Seems a bit in your face on one let alone all :p I much prefer neutral colours and let features with colours set the room off, especially in a room such as a kitchen :)

Well my gf wants it on all in the kitchen & dining area, I'm trying to limit it to just the kitchen area. :D

Oh yes the other main thing we need to investigate is the fireplaces.

They've only ever used the one in the dining room which they've used wood in, but there is a gas pipe into it (que?). Would be good if we could use the originals in the bedroom & living room as well.

So before I get the Liberon paste out does anyone have any recommendations for someone to look at them and the chimney in the Birmingham area?

Awesome! Looks like a lovely house, with plenty to do. It will be beautiful once finished.

What drill is that? I'll be needing one for when I get my house. The one I have at the moment is a 20yr old Black and Decker with a dodgey 'go' button.

It's this one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/MAKITA-8391DWPE-TK-Ni-Cad-Batteries-Pieces/dp/B0044ATOFO

Haven't used it yet, will see what it's like tonight when I have a look under the floor boards.

I'll try not to drop my phone under them again. :o

Awesome, thanks for that. I'll have a look at that drill. There just seems such a massive choice its hard to tell what to go for.

Is this going to be your little project log? I'd be interested in seeing how things go.

Hopefully, I'll try and do regular updates that way it'll be nice to see the progress.

Made an ammendment the garden is just over 41m in length according to the OS map, not 30m. :o

If you're getting a drill, go for Lithium Ion, rather than Ni-Cad. Ni-Cad is old tech, doesn't hold charge well and deteriorates with partial charges.

Something like

http://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-dcd776c2-gb-18v-1-3ah-li-ion-cordless-combi-drill-xr/17648

or

http://www.diy.com/departments/maki...bi-drill-2-batteries-hp457dwex2/278413_BQ.prd

Would be a much better buy.

See http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18577721 for much more knowledgeable folks :)

Enjoy the house move and what will become a constant, never ending chain of DIY :)

Thanks for sharing. Why the Makita over the DeWalt? I've been looking at both of these.

Not much to report this evening. Only had about an hour and half there.

Pulled up the carpet in the hall and the floorboards are all decent bar one which is slightly split at one end. Pulled up a section in the living room, unfortunately not original but they seem quite thick and close together so itll be okay.

Then I thought I'd give the staircase a quick blast so got started on that, and continued and continued...

Started on the bottom step and just endless staples pinning the carpet down, finally got it off the first step and to my amazment underneath... a piece of plywood ... With 34 screws through it into the step! I'm not joking 34!!!

What is this?!? So I've just spent what seems like an age taking out the screws go to lift it up and it doesn't budge. Wut?! On closer inspection its also been glued to the step with some NASA grade adhesive! So I grab the wallpaper knife and carefully start jimmying my way along trying not to pull up any of the step as I go. Unfortunately a little bit come up in the middle after the last pull but its not too bad. What a farce that was. Step looks amazing I just hope the others have not been given the same treatment!

I'll throw up some pictures tomorrow.

As long as it's li-ion, I'd have no preference as a home user. There's also a blue Bosch and a Hitachi in sctewfix. Go with whichever you prefer. Unless you plan to buy loads of cordless tools and want to stick with one brand.

Edit - when I said much better buy, I meant over the ni-cad

i bought a ryboi drill from b and q and its been doing me well so far. £98 for the drill and 2 batteries.

the the ryobi one+ range so the same batteries fit all sorts of tools they sell.
