The Warhammer "I am having performance issues" help thread

what effect does lowering your resolution have? If the problem persists after lowering the res its less likely to be a gcard issue. Try defragging your hard drive and possible running it on a separate drive as it sounds like (as you said) a texture loading problem.
The difference between 1024 x 768 and 1680 x 1080 is like on average 7 FPS. The minimum when it starts hitching remains the same.

My hard drive is defragged. I checked memory utilization in task manager and it never goes above 1.6GB so there should be no reason for the swap file to be utilized on the hard drive. Lol I do truly appreciate your help, but I would love to have a quid for every time I heard 'defrag your hard drive' as a solution for every PC problem known to man.

:D

I'll quote my post in the main thread (which seemed to get lost in a lot of other comments)

I'm getting some random crashes at the moment, don't suppose anyone else is?

Basically just black screens every now and then, relatively common in scenarios, but I've just had it happen in normal play as well.

I've checked temps on restart and they are fine, I've updated most of my drivers. I've turned down a lot of the graphical effects (though I've got an 8800gt), and I'm just about to try running it in a window. I've read a few reports of this and wondered if anyone else had had it?

I've tried it on both my desktop and laptop, the above occurs on my Desktop, on my laptop it drops back to windows.

Running XP on the Desktop, Vista on the Laptop, X2 in the Desktop and C2D in the Laptop so I struggle to see much in common to cause it beyond both having Nvidia cards. The (in my opinion) ludicrous suggestions on WHA to underclock my card or RMA it are just that, ludicrous...

It's also stupidly choppy on both, note that it got significantly worse when they added the 4.11 patch during OB which improved the graphics, before that performance was much better (it looked like crud, but it DID perform better!)...

Try running in windowed mode, with the res set the same as your desktop.
try running in fullscreen mode with the res set to the same as your desktop is.
works for me 7/10 times.

its like the game is in software mode and i get 10-15fps gpu temps suggests its idle.
the times it works is 40-70fps and the gpu temp rises like it should.

obviously something is wrong with the games engine and something causes it to not use the gpu

Guys I've sorted it on my machine.

I went into the nvidia control panel and turned on AA and AF - got them both running at 8x and I've turned on vsync and it's running flawlessly!

Hope it works for you others out there that had the same problem. ;)

While running it in windowed mode does appear to make it marginally more stably on my desktop, it does affect performance considerably.

I updated DirectX on my laptop which MAY have helped, but I'm reserving judgement at the moment. Certainly I had no crashes on that yesterday.

Thanks for the help as I have it running much better. My frame rate is not effected that much any more by loads of characters running around anymore. I do still get a bit of hitching while moving and the minimum frame rates could be higher but I can live with it. The thing that made the difference is the latest beta drivers or possibly something they patched in the last 2 days since I last played. I tried some of the other advice like v-synch and windowed mode but this did not make any noticeable difference.

I'm using XP a 9600Gt, 2Gb RAM and a dual core Opteron.

My frame rates are fine with everything maxxed out, HD is defragged and seperate from my OS.

The game runs pretty much the same on min or max detail it also runs similarly well at 1280 x 1024 and 1920 x 1080 on my LCD with or without AA and AF there are some performance differences using the different setting but the main problem remains under all conditions, the glitching and pauses.

It's ruining a good game for me although I do think the problem is at Mystics end, anyone got any further suggestions? The visuals are hardly groundbreaking after all.

Have you tried the latest 177.92 beta drivers?

Nope but I really don't see them making a huge difference tbh.
That is the only thing I have changed and it has completely transformed the performance. Do not ask me why or how but it has. Previously I was using the latest official drivers. I would suggest trying every solution provided on this thread as some of them do appear to work.

Tried them, reinstalled them again, got similar results second time as well.

Same here, gotta love beta drivers.

I'm also having problems with it not using my GPU. Temps & load (in GPUZ) are showing the card as idle.

Tried running the game windowed at desktop res, full screen at desktop res & tried adjusting the slider suggested above. None of it seems to work.

I'm running an ATI 4850 & have tried the 8.9 & recent beta drivers, both giving the same results.

Rest of my rig is in the sig below & my OS is vista home premium 64bit (kept up to date etc)

anyone got any suggestions?
