The Watch (BBC's Discworld Series)

That's very odd - what's with the band/group Vimes seems to be in, electric lights on the stage too?

Looks like the BBC made sure to give it a bit of woke treatment... gender swaps and a token black person are pretty standard for the sake of "diversity" these days.

I guess with J K Rowling being public enemy number one among some woke types there are quite a few woke former Harry Potter fans looking for a new home, maybe this will suit them (if they're unfamiliar with the Diskworld).

Unsurprising if but upsetting garbage from the BBC.

I grew up reading the Discworld books, this is not even remotely close to them.

As for why they feel the need to gender bend in a world already full of fantastic female characters is beyond me.

starved for content and only ever played a few discworld games back in the day so meh...
I'll give it an unbiased attempt

I guess up after 1 episode, it tries to be funny but it's not and just becomes annoying with it's constant attempts.
I'm starting to wonder if all LGBT people are annoying or just the stereotypical ones that end up as characters on TV

Watched the first half of the first episode not great. The change of setting, sort of medieval industrial, does it no favours. They needed to play it straighter was my first thoughts a more traditional medieval fantasy like the Sky 1 stuff. I like the guy who plays Vimes but I remain to be convinced with the manic performance. I'll probably use it as filler for a few more episodes.

Some people tell me that I am wrong in my past musings that I do not like it when tv/movies do not accurately portray the literary source that they come from.

I think this trailer quite clearly evidences why I am 100% correct in that belief.

Shocking.

You are totally correct in that belief.

Watched the first on iPlayer yesterday. It just didn't work for me - they seem to have lost all that made the books so good. We'll probably watch a couple more to see if it improves, a first episode can often be a bit shonky as characters and backstory have to be established for people who don't know the canon.

Sky did a much better job with "Going Postal".
