Ok, so boredom causes re-design.

What do you think?

Things I'm aware of, trying to fix:

  • Content - I'm adding stuff all the time, I've just added a bit to make sure it formats correctly.
  • Lightbox bug in IE, the overlay PNG doesn't show, even though the readme says its compatible with IE6.
  • Navigation links are smaller in FF than IE. Not too fussed, as they still work fine, and look ok, just not as wide and tall as in IE.
  • I haven't validated either the mark-up/css yet, I tend to wait until I have pretty much everything on there and make sure all images have alt tags etc before I make it live. But I don't think there should be any major errors.

Any suggestions? Comments?

Cheers :)

I like it better than the current site, the 'banners' are a bit too big. If you make it look like it does in IE then that's awesome.

Also as previously brought up it should be 'Without design, the world is a boring place'

Nice looking code too.

In my opinion its far too busy, and I don't like the stock images, what has a picture of a section of a woman have to do with a network of links?

Nothing at all, but that doesn't matter. None of the other images are linked to the content it hold either. It's just nice quality stock photography.

I agree it is nice quality stock photography. However, every other site I have ever been on uses relevant stock imagery for each page, which makes the page more memorable and has more of an impact. With random stock images I left just wondering what on earth has that image got to do with anything on the site!

Also, I personally dont think the blimking cursor is a good idea. It may make people think they should be typing there!

Thats the whole point, a site that doesn't conform to normal expectations of a site. I'll adhere to important standards, but I don't think a a simple animation is going to cause mass confusion. Users response would be typically

"hehe, I thought I had to click there for a second.."

Maybe, but when I think of a site that doesn't conform to normal expectations, I think of a revelutionary design or somthing a bit original, which, sadly your site, in my opinion is not.

Also I'm not too sure about the white text on that tiled background, it can be a bit hard to read in places.

:)

To be brutally honest, the only part of the site I like are the stock images on each page, I don't like the colours, I don't like the navigation (neither the buttons or the dashed line under the text links at the bottom), I don't like the background image and I don't like the lack of padding or the black bg colour in the logo or the text titles and I'm not keen on the logo itself either (sorry :(). Don't take my opinion though, web design is all very subjective and something I don't like could be something someone else loves.

I didn't like it at first, but then it started to grow on me as I looked through the pages. The code validates on the pages I looked at, which I expect from you now iCraig. ;)

Ok, so things I don't like include the red image on the index page. All the rest are bright and colourful and that one is dark and red. I also don't like the logo.gif. It seems to close to the edge and the flashing cursor annoys me.

Finally...

if you're on 800x600 the above is all you see, forcing people to have to scroll down. Some people are either too lazy to scroll down or don't know that you can scroll down. People arn't so dim now but there are a few.

One way to overcome this would be to try and incorporate the title of the website into those large header images or make the images smaller.

Other than that it's pretty good. :)
