The "Winter Coat" thread

Any examples you could link too Ly?

I've been having real trouble finding one that will go with my dinner suit, and also a pair of jeans..now it's possible such a coat doesn't exist, but it'd be nice if I could find one ;)

Money isn't the issue, it's just finding one that looks good, whilst working in more then one situation! I'm not a girl, so don't want 37 different things for every occasion.

I've been looking round for the last ten mins and something on this page may be more to your liking:

OK, it's M&S but it gives you an idea. Most of those coats are mid-length but if you 'expand' that idea then you'll know what I mean. I used to get mine at House of Fraser a few years ago but I can't find something similar on their website now.

Funny you should mention the other Talkeetna (the hooded shell type one I think you mean?) As that was what I was originally looking at for £105 but saw some reviews that also mentioned the dripping.

I think the Parka is excellent for £99 and that's with DHL delivery too.

Looks like I'm sold.

Many thanks

Got a linky??

Zara have some decent overcoats starting from about £100 or so I think. I ended up getting a Paul Smith overcoat last christmas, but I got it in the sales so it was only £250, looks great with a suit or casualwear imo.
I've spent lots of time in Zara in both London and Paris (the Paris shops stock stuff that is cut differently, mainly I guess because Londoners are fat and Parisians aren't..) and nothing there fits me. I'm a weird shape, really hard to fit for shirts/jumpers/coats/etc.

Slender, but with fairly big shoulders due to rowing :(

I've nothing against M&S at all, I have a jacket from them and it's really nice. I won't spend £400+ on a jacket because it costs £400+, I'll spend £80 on a jacket if it fits and looks good.

I'm liking these actually, what do you think?

I quite like the third option there - if it were me I'd probably go for that. The second one looks like it could be rather awkward.

lol matrix people.

Yes, I've had stupid comments from people in the street before - "Oi mate, Keanu wants his coat back! Hahaha!!". Cretins...

What makes you think awkward about number 2? It's the same as number 1 just a lighter cloth.

Prices incidentally in order are £350, £180, £79.

I really like the first jacket (current fav.), but wonder if it might be too formal for casual wear.

Just saw this one actually:

which I like, but then is that too informal for dinner wear?

I've just got one of these as my old Barbour had given up the ghost after many, many years of good loyal service (Still use it for walking the dog and fishing where rips and tears don't really matter ;)).

Going to posh do's with snobs?
If thats how you choose to view it? I guess so. Though I would consider them neither "posh do's", nor "snobs". Edit: RE: Lysander's comment; Yes. What an odd thing to say. I suppose you find the idea that I own a dinner suit (rather then hire as and when) makes me a snob?

I need a new coat for formal halls, and I have a raft of boat club dinners coming up in October/November.

I guess I could buy the same coat I had previously, but I'm looking for a fresh style.
