The "Winter Coat" thread

What makes you think awkward about number 2? It's the same as number 1 just a lighter cloth.

Prices incidentally in order are £350, £180, £79.

I really like the first jacket (current fav.), but wonder if it might be too formal for casual wear.

Just saw this one actually:

which I like, but then is that too informal for dinner wear?

I think it was the material that I don't like about number 2 - it looks too thin and therefore wouldn't hang as well for me. I prefer it slightly thicker. The first one would therefore be better.

The photo quoted above wouldn't really go with dinner attire - certainly not for a very formal dinner anyway.

Now get yourself a pair of black leather gloves and you're set!

Going to posh do's with snobs?

What an odd thing to say.

Aye I've since discarded that style of jacket due to its look, even though I like it. I think I'll see if number 1 is in the Cambridge store, and go try it on.

Edit: Number 2's model looks like Glenn Roeder actually, reason enough not to choose that one :p

If thats how you choose to view it? I guess so. Though I would consider them neither "posh do's", nor "snobs". Edit: RE: Lysander's comment; Yes. What an odd thing to say. I suppose you find the idea that I own a dinner suit (rather then hire as and when) makes me a snob?

I think it's just a case of inverted snobbery. Some people see those who go to formal dinners - and those they associate with - as snobs looking down on others and scoffing at those who can't afford it, when really it's nothing like that. It's just a nice thing to do, while being traditional in the cases of some institutions.

Basically it's the attitude of a lot of people who use the word 'posh' in an unironic way.

Funny you should mention the other Talkeetna (the hooded shell type one I think you mean?) As that was what I was originally looking at for £105 but saw some reviews that also mentioned the dripping.

This is the one that I've got. Shame they only have the rubbish sizes left. Hate how they assume that just because you're a bit taller that you also have a huge belly.

Nothing wrong with technical clothing in the city, loads of people wear it. When you've got to walk somewhere and there's horizontal rain I know what I'd rather be wearing.

Get yourself a nice warm M65-style jacket - surplus from £60:

That's what I'm looking at getting next :)

Proper jacket, none of this poncy stuff!

I can usually just make do with a long-sleeved t-shirt and a hoodie.

I've got a cheap, H&H down-filled jacket I got for about £25 for really bad, wet days. About as fashionable as Rod, Jane & Freddie but it does the job.

I can't has fashunz.

I quite like that jacket  Would prefer it in black I think, definitely will consider buying one now...:)

Cheers,

BeatMaster :D
Yeah I'm deliberating whether to lean toward the olive or the black tbh, always am a black-clothed dude so I thought I'd maybe go with something a little different :/ The black is swinging it for me a little now though!

I've tried some nice fitted 3/4 length coats in Zara. They suit me because I'm skinny, good width across the shoulders and taper in nicely across the waist :)

I normally just stick on my Skiing jacket. If it's warm enough for 2000m up a mountain, it's warm enough for 5°C at sea level :p

Good thread this.....

I've been looking at getting a winter coat, especially now it's turned rather chilly. I've found a nice (simple looking, but warm) jacket at the below link, but I'd quite like to try one on before I purchase. Anyone know where they might be stocked, I've tried Millets and Blacks but no luck. Its the North Face Men's Amplitude Triclimate Jacket.
