It's that time of year when we look towards our winter prospects, and rather than doing a seperate winter thread every year as I've done previously. I'll just use this one for all of our Winter updates!

With the incredible summer we've had both record breaking for dry and amount of times above 30C, will be interesting to see if we can flip to coldest on record for winter.

So far here's the latest from NW

It has been snowing all summer across the Arctic as far south as mainland coastal areas. One often gets flurries in June and July but it's been heavier than normal and settling briefly on occasion. We started seeing more widespread snow in August and it's repeatedly trying to settle now, which is earlier than normal as MIA points out. Severe Weather Europe predicting below average snowfall this coming Winter, across most of Europe (incl UK), bar the far North and NE of the continent.

I hope for dry and and cold. But we're expecting mild and wet.

Thank goodness summer is still hanging on. Was a glorious day today

New ECMWF seasonal September update for winter looks to be showing higher pressure to our north ( greenland ) and lower pressure to the south. Possible cold undercuts?
