The witcher 3 with a 1080Ti, low fps?

So I loaded up The witcher 3 last night for the first time since installing my 1080Ti, but to my dismay I was only getting 30fps at 3440x1440 I had to bump it down to 2056x1080 to get a constant 60fps.

What am I doing wrong, all other games run fine at native resolution.

I've watched a few youtube vids and people are getting 75fps with a 1080Ti at 3440x1440.

Hairworks is an unoptimized gimmick that will kill your framerates, even with a 1080ti. You have to leave it off and lower all the other hairworks settings to as low as possible. Mine is the same.

There's something wrong there, with the same card at the same res I'm getting much higher FPS. I'll check my game settings later.

Edit: Yep. Everything set to max except for hairworks, which is on low. ~80+ fps

turned off hairworks and I've got it running at 60fps with vsync on. It still seems kind of jerky though when moving the mouse, keyboard movement is fine just the world mouse movement is off.

Tried that and I was stuck at 30fps again grrr

actually no, when I turned vsync on I was stuck at 30fps, I turned it on to try and cure the jerkiness but nope. with it off and limited to 60fps character movement is fine but moving the mouse is jerky.

This game actually runs a lot better on my rx480 than it did on my 970, even with all the gameworks stuff turned on. I'd blame nvidia drivers tbh.

Are all other games OK? A friend of mine had a similar issue and his card wasn't seated correctly, might be worth checking that. FWIW my 1080 manages between 60-90 FPS at 3440x1440, hairworks drops it by about 10

Might also help telling us where you are doing your FPS readings. I can get anywhere from 50-150 fps depending on where I am and what I am doing.

i have zero problems with witcher 3 and 3440x1440p all on ultra even hairworks and the game runs perfectly smooth on a OCed 1080

I have stuttering performance in full screen mode. When i changed to windowed full screen the game was obviously smoother. In fact i have this happen in a few games.

Some games' own vsync implemention is rubbish - The Witcher 3 has pretty shoddy ingame vsync, so running windowed fullscreen uses Windows' triple buffered vsync instead and it works pretty well for most (but not all) games.

Sounds stupid, but plug in an xbox controller and disable mouse hardware in settings. Stopped the mouse jittering for me
