The Witcher 3, worth playing previous 2?

Thanks for the prompt reply.
When I played TES Oblivion, felt the same, couldn't bring myself to play the previous ones.
Will try the 3rd first them.

The W1 control system is hard to get used to but it's worth the effort. I would say that W1 has the best storyline. W2 is good but pales in comparison to W3.

I would be tempted to play 1&2 before 3. If I was going to drop one it would be W2 that I would skip.

I tried to play w1 a few times but got bored of act 2. I have completed w2 which I thought was really good. W3 is quite good at letting you know what's going on without feeling lost if you never played the others.
I'm sure there's some good YouTube videos you could watch for the story.

They are fun, but IMO do feel dated, I suppose having played 3 and other games since. Pretty easy to read up on the lore of previous games IMO to get an understanding of what happens if you choose not to play 1&2.

I'd say unless you're really into the storyline you should probably just watch a youtube catchup for 1&2 and play through 3. You'll easily pour 150+ hours into 3 anyway.

I'm intending to play TW2 again before starting TW3 on PC. The first game isn't one I want to play though again though. It's quite different from the later installments and not really my cup of tea.

But the first two games are really cheap. Why not just give them a try and make your own mind up?

Imo TW1 was incredible... for devoted fans of the books, and even better if you're Polish. Playing it today without all that? A very hard sell.

TW2 is simply outshone by TW3 but if you get really into the universe then you start wanting to play it.

But tbh they're so cheap on sale & even offered for free from time to time that it makes no sense not to give them a go and judge for yourself.

I finished 1 years ago and as good as it was at the time, I probably wouldn't go back to it as it's quite dated now. I was torn between playing 2 before getting onto 3 but decided to give it a miss as I don't generally have much time for gaming. I don't feel like I've lost out on anything by not playing it.

Some interesting opinions, thanks.
Bought the first 2, just to be safe, less than 3 quid.
Started playing the 3rd, and may try and play the other at a later opportunity.
So far, very pleased.
Despite playing many games that require some strategy and somehow can relate to TW3, like TES, Dark Souls, Sekiro, NIOH, etc, the options and information promptly available right at the beginning of the game feels a bit overwhelming. Just a matter of getting used to the game, I guess.
I assume it will be another game that will take well over 100 hours to explore properly.
Just hope doesn't get too repetitive.
