The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - do I need mods?

It's a bloody awful game compared to the second one imo, but texture mods are a must, and see if you can find a SweetFX/ENB that works on it too.

It's a completely different game to the second one.
But I've never played the second to any meaningful degree, the first one however I found really good, but I just ran it vanilla with some forced super sampling AA.

There is a mod that is highly recommended that changes the combat mechanics but I haven't had a chance to play through the 1st one with this installed, I have only played vanilla.

I too think the 1st one is far better than the 2nd. The only thing the 2nd one has going for it is the fantastic graphics. Can't help with what mods you should use because I never used any.

Guys I can't for the life of me find any mods that alter the graphics apart from a high-res moon. The other one is a combat overhaul but it's recommended for veteran players so that's out of the question too.

Think i'll play it as it is and see how I get on.

I think I used a simple texture mod and 'better rain' or something like that, can't see I noticed much difference. I don't think the directors cut / enhanced edition *needs* modding, tbh.

Playing it bog standard and it's acceptable to look at. Can't be bothered to mod it as it's over 16Gb and knowing me, if I **** something up i'll have to re-install.

A hard game to get into as the combat is very different. Well worth persevering with though.
the combat becomes quite enjoyable after you've got the hang of it.
I preferred to the sequal also.

Well, played it for just over 10 hours according to Steam and i've uninstalled. The story and exploration are amazing but the combat had me pulling my hair out. Tried to Google a mod for it but it looks like it's hard coded into the game. Apparently Witcher 2 is better but I felt gutted uninstalling this as it's an amazing game but the combat mechanics are horrid.

the only mods i installed where to make the game harder - yes to make it harder! its been a while but the mod basically rebalenced and weakened a lot of tfhe gear so the game didnt start off hard then get easier and easier as the game progressed, on the hardest difficulty it starts off reasonably hard and stays hard throughout. the game getting easier and easier was my only problem with the game and that fixed it!

You even said yourself that you saw the combat mod listed so how is the combat hard coded? Maybe you should have tried the mod before uninstalling...
