The Witcher-Official Thread

On their forum theres a guy moaning that on his q6600 4gb ram 8800 ultra machine running vista 64 the game chugs along!? I have the specs below and mines as slippery as runny dodo's on a hot shovel.

I bet he's telling everyone what a crap game it is rather than actually going and fixing his system :D

**Possible spoiler however it's so subtle you've probably worked it out for yourself if it 'spoils':p**

Wow, just completed my first play through, really really enjoyable, had such a reaction when I realised who the last person actually was, little subtle clues along the way, especially when he reminds you of something you said in the past, something you said to someone else..... wonderful, and a superb twist that they still don't confirm at the end

**end of possible subtle spoiler**.

Really enjoyed it, ran it on AMD 64 3200 (since for the life of me i've been suffering the dreaded XP all games will chug along after 5 minutes no matter what hotfix's you apply on my X2 chip). Had to turn things down in the Chapter with Old Vizima and keep them down till the end, but didn't really spoil it at all.

I've played Mass Effect, and I couldn't stomach going back for another play through of that, not for all the 'achievement points' in the world. The Witcher on the other hand.... despite me choosing my own path and making the decisions i'd make in real life, I felt really guilty when my choices were being reeled off at the end... yet I wouldn't of chosen any other way.... really made me think.

Going to play through it again in a couple of months, its the first game since X3: Reunion and Half-life 2 (for counterstrike:soure), that i've ever even considered keeping and not trading in.....

Excellent, excellent, excellent, if you haven't picked it up, and for an unbelievably tiny price, I got mine knocked down in a high street game shop chain for 19.99. There is no excuse not to get this game, I can not rate it high enough, guess I was lucky only a couple of CTD type bugs, flawless for a good 50 hours of play, well, it's lasted me 2 weeks of non stop playing on weekends and for HOURS after work, i've been turning up tired the next morning.

Get this game to anyone who hasn't CD Projekt well deserve success with this game and there MUST be a Witcher 2, tbh I think I got interested in the game after stumbling across this thread months ago, if you do feel convinced by any of the 'fanboys/girls' here and what they say, then you CAN believe them, they weren't wrong! Down with magazine reviews and Up with knowledgable forum posters, thanks guys!:D \o/

One problem though... I was really looking forward to Fable 2, I just hope that Fable 2 can live up to this game.... :(

I just finished it last night. Wow! What a superb game. I am terrible at playing games for a while then putting them to one side and never touching them again, but the Witcher kept me hooked all the way through. My only quibble is that it crashed fairly often, but that wasn't a huge problem as there was always a saved game and little progress was lost.

I have to admit I did play it on easy. I'm more interested in storyline that game/combat mechanics. I may (and this is a first for me) go back and replay it differently (I sided with the non-humans) and on a harder setting.

Recommended, without hesitation.

I got the wHicher before xmas, along with the orange box, so I've only just started.

While I really like the look, feel, tone, and any other vague platitudes,of the game, I really don't like the combat so far. Does it develop later in the game or is click-to-hit mechanic there the whole time?

It's a bit diabloesque for me (which I hate). I'd much rather just attack once, changing abilities and items used, and let Geralt get on with the sword swinging. A bit more like baldurs/nwn/kotor combat. In fact I dislike diablo style click fests so much, if there's no alternative I think I'll leave this game till a mod comes out. The modding tools have been or are to be released IIRC.

Anyone share this point of view. Or am I in the DnD anorak corner on my own?:p

Im stuck near the beginning where you have to talk to 3 town people to convince reverand, as soon as i talk to the first one he tells me to go away and i cant talk to him again, so what do i do?

Finally got it, anyone else find there spending hours just running around in that outskirts village area ? Looks amazing btw, full graphics @ 1920x1200 :D.

Potions mate, make sure you use em.

Namely the one that slows everything down. And have plenty of health ones too.

Some stuff totally kicked my ass, but then i realised that using more potions made it 10x easier to fight em :)

I'm playing the demo ,first impressions not bad but would have preferred a first person view ,not sure why so many games don't have this option !
Good music but not sure if I will buy !

I saw it for 15 quid in a local shop mate, at prices around this its really worth the purchase.

give it time

Yeah thats not bad ,I have to admit most games I play I start of a bit unsure ,like oblivion but thought it was great after a while !

Crysis was the opposite ,thought it was great to start with then it went down hill :(

Have you lit all the fires around the village for the reverand?

Once you have, go and tell him, he will give you ring of eternal fire. When you go to speak to the three people you will see it to the left of the conversation window once you initiate chat, click it. That will enable you to talk to them.

There are two types (don't remember the names). One of the two is fairly easy to kill use the Igni sign; the other is a real tough bugger. I usually wait until the very end of the chapter to take it on. Remember though, they can't move, so if it comes to it, you can just run past them :)

A torch is also very handy for killing these, they don't like fire at all. Use one instead of your sword and a few hits will see it off.

See, that's what I absolutely love about this game. That innovative solutions like this actually work. Using the soldiers to help is excellent too. The sign of a really great game is that it doesn't disappoint when you try something out of the ordinary.

60% PC Gamer. You twits

At least my favorite magazine pczone recognized it merits. I to love things like this in games. Like in FFVII when I think you get that indian monster and he can die instantly from one healing.
