The Witcher-Official Thread

Just a quick msg to say I managed to find this for £17.99.

Get it ordered we need to support PC developers as they have put the PC before consoles which these days is becoming a rare thing these days

Long live the fantastic PC!

Deks

The 1.1a patch is only to fix a potential prob in Chapter 5 it seems, so no restarts are needed to get the benefits apparently :)

I'm intrigued to see what the SDK and toolset brings to this game. They are releasing it in a few weeks I think. Also addon modules/content is planned by the devs too.

Still in chapter 2 here, not played much today, but still loving it :D...really is a great game

Managed to get the game after posty didnt turn up:D, gonna send the otherone back when it turns up. Very polished game, best i played on in years. Restarting again as i got a bit stuck on something, wont say what as i wont spoil it for anyone.

Anyone who likes RPG games gonna love this:D. Buy it now

yep its a great game :) If this gets less than 90% in any pc mag its a scandal!!
Even the loading doesnt bother me (the artwork is very nice :))

What i like about the graphics is the way light affects the environment - very realistic. How it all looks different etc.

If there is one tiny complaint i could make its that they re-use npc models.

i was level 3 before i realized you have to meditate to be able to spend the talents.

Now going to try to brew a potion to get a free bronze talent :D

edit: hrmm wasnt able to brew any potions either possibly because i dont have the base? or i didnt have the necessary level.

ohh and places of power do they just restore health/endurance or something?

Gonna be obtaining this tomorrow, can't wait. I havent played a decent 'proper' rpg since Baldurs Gate 2 (which was polygonal secks), will i be disappointed?

this game is awesome a few requests for a patch would be:

1: The ability to disable auto saves.

2: Better caching of areas... so it loads quicker. Although I think the ability to disable autosave would combat it.

A REQUEST FROM ATI!

Please make better ATI drivers which enable vsync!!!!! its making me queezy :(, yet Nvidia have released drivers quickly to combat this :(

Well at the moment i regard this as , dare i say it, as a possible Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines Beater. Considering, i regard Bloodlines as the best SinglePlayer RPG on the PC (yep better than Oblivion)

The Witcher gives you the sense of freedom + structure in a lovely juicy combination.

It is a bit more actiony :D than perhaps Bloodlines but the combat has more depth (tons of upgrades to combat moves) And the alchemy is very in-depth stuff too.

Great games imo have a magic ingredient ;) which hangs it all together call it mojo if you will: this games got it

Ohh and the developers are going to release a toolkit for it as well. The Witcher modules???? The juicyness just doesnt end!

there is no level requirement for potions. you might need the base.. high quality alcohol usually does the trick.

places of power give your magic abilities (signs) extra power for a few hours.

has anyone had any success inventing alchemy potions? i have tried combining some random ingredients but all seem to kill me rapdily :(. I wonder if there is any skill to it or all luck.

i wish this game would use my full 4GB or ram. task managers shows it using 1.5g max so im sure all those little houses could be easily cached

Why are people complaining about loading times? I'm getting 10secs max, more normally 6 seconds.

I've been counting!

Played some more, sometimes I really wonder what goes through a designers head when they let stuff like this happen:

1) Certain characters will say the same dialogue, even after you help them with a quest/bang them, you go back and act like they've never met you. Could be a bug, if not it's a little annoying.
2) It doesn't autosave/let you save, before certain boss encounters so you end up watching the same cut-scene/dialogue choice several times, which is very annoying. Hope they change this in a patch.

load times arent important, accept within a city, if i investigate a house....bang load time, out of house, bang load time...it just gets a little annoying:(

1. yeah agreed noticed this

2. This answers 1. aswell but you can skip through cutscenes quickly just pressing left mouse button. So not that annoying.

I hated this game to start with because of the combat, but after you get some combo's its not all that bad. Only other gripe is the contstant loading.

Apart from that its a pretty good game.

woot i shagging virtual prostitutes for free with a bunch of flowers:D

yeah saw that un..whered u grab the flowers? just growing nearby? (ones to swap for the tulips ;) )

This is got to be the best rpg ive played well since KOTOR

agreed - its possibly even better than Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (which i worship at the altar of on a weekly basis)

I tell you when they're handing out the awards for RPG of the year... Bioshock better not win over this in all honesty.
