The Witcher-Official Thread

This game keeps getting better and better. I'm almost to chapter 3 now I think and without giving away spoilers its just briliant. Greater than the sum of its parts if you will.

Choices you made many hours earlier really do come back and bite you in the arse, or can give you an easier ride. It really forces you to think and plan ahead, but not done in a typical black & white fashion....there is no real right and wrong in this grim world you are in, just what you feel might be right for you at the time.

Some areas have some stunning scenery and atmosphere. I'm not one to usually care too much about uber graphics but this game it really does draw you in. The art direction was done in such a way it feels very real. There are npcs everywhere. The big city is bustling with life and feels like a real medieval type city would do, etc. The only thing I would have liked to see is the npc models not repeated quite as much but this is only a minor niggle.

I'm doing a lot of sidequests, not just main story quests as you do see a lot more of the game. There is a real incentive to do them unlike some other games where they seem like unimportant fluff. For instance, sidequests can give you more xp, items, etc which helps your development. And exploring every nook & cranny of a map is beneficial too....never know what you might find ;)

Anyway, back to it....:D

bah i'm at work... will be another 4 hours before i can play it again :(

theres like 7 acts or something i think isnt there?

prologue + Acts 1-5 then the epilogue yeah?

Yep surfer worked great!!! 2 of the 3 townys I bribed to give me the quest and one of them (Olo?) I had to buy him some expensive beer and had a session with him!!!

Spoiler:

To gain his trust I had to clean out those attacking plants...but I had to do this AFTER I had a session with him!!! I was plastered but had to kill them like this :p

Yeah I had to do the same.

Is anyone else getting problems with crashes to desktop during a few of the cutscenes? The one just when you exit the tunnel with Abigail and also the one just before you enter the main city. I get the "The Witcher has encountered an error and needs to close" general dialog box.

Aside from that, this is one hell of a game. Definitely one of the most immersive games I have played in a long time. The story just makes me want to keep on going and going. The combat is alright, not amazing but it works quite well and the combo's are pretty damn sweet. Especially when you do the knockdowns and you get the animated finishers. They're really cool.

The graphics are amazing and the environments really suit the game so well. I haven't really had any issues with the loading times at all, it's a bit of a niggle, but hardly experience-ruining imho.

All-in-all I am really glad that I bought this game. It has been one of the most worthwhile purchases this year for me :)

This game is absolutely phenomenal. I have not gone out the whole weekend and I was supposed to go out for drinks last night. If we were not that busy at work I would have pulled a sicky. It has been years since I have enjoyed a game this much. I am a slow gamer and this is going to take me ages to finish so all my plans for buying the new releases have been put on hold. I have not even downloaded the Crysis demo that came out yesterday and says allot.

Just wondering I am at the crypt to gain trust with Mirkul... I have killed the ghouls and completed the quest...

However I see on map there is a lot of the crypt left but blocked by rocks.. :(

I have used both force powers in the thought they might blast the rocks away :p

is it something im doing wrong or will i eventually be able to see it at a later time?

Cheers:)

Later in chapter 2

If its the crypt in the act 1 area, Mikul says when youve done his quest that a team is going in. For me i just did some stuff then rested (probably totalling around a day) and went back in and it had been cleared.

Dont think anyone here has said anything bad yet, says a lot i think ;). All i can say is WOW, i got quests comming out me years and i am on chapter 2 . Never seen so much work put into every little aspect of the game

Without giving anything away anyone bed the maid in the mill in chapter 1:D, made me laugh a lot that, now thats what i call attent to every little detail /salute

Must go back to game, if i pick up anymore quests i will cry in real life :(, its hard work playing dice, fighting in the bar, bedding everything that walks :D and quests of course ;)

the mob weapons are pretty crap because they cant be used withh wiotcher fighting styles and they dont sell for much. best weapons are forged from blacksmiths or some special places which i shouldnt spoil.

and with the ghoul contract you can find the dude in the city now.

gj saving the witch, those guys were all b*****ds!

Good game apart from constant crashing, makes my game unplayable,I have about 42 games installed on Vista x64 and guess whats the only game that crashes yep The Witcher, checking their forums I'm not the only one,http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=2816.0 ,http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=2826.0 ,http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=2801.0 ,http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=2763.0 etc.... pretty serious issues.

Anyway not really playable or enjoyable with constant crashing, even clicking on trade icon in dialogue mode with npc crashes game.

Been playing it on Vista 64 for hours and hours and not a single issue, running it on a Q6600 and 8800GTX with everything set to the highest.
Please check your CPU usage in task manager as I'm interested to know how the faster Intel CPU's perform. The game only uses 1 core so speed will benefit greatly.
