Chess obviously. ;) Does anyone else here play? Currently I use http://gameknot.com/ . I'm considering subscribing to Gameknot, after being a non-paying member for several years, but thought I'd ask if there are recommendations for any other Chess sites.

I was hoping for a new Battle Isle, but obviously not...

Though the original Mission Force:Cyberstorm was brilliant. Shame the sequal was nothing like it and completely pants.

Used to be addicted to Laser Squad Nemesis, but haven't played it in years now.

Original Laser Squad (and Lords of Chaos) devoured countless hours in my ST/Amiga days.

it's a poor title for the thread's OP.

the title suggests you're asking what the best turn based strategy is...

XCOM is way better than chess.

so XCOM : Enemy Unkown gets my vote

The title suggests I'm asking but doesn't contain a question mark ...mmm. OK, maybe it was a poor title, but I never realised people never bothered to actually read the OP, even when the thread title is so obviously open ended.

XCom is way better than Chess my arse. Good game that it is I doubt it'll be played it in a hundred years. Chess on the other hand...

There's absolutely nothing in the title to suggest that it's a question. I didn't think it was bad at all, it leads you to think of 'traditional' strategy games for the PC.
And if you're only going to read the thread title then immediately post, you may as well stop using forums and use a chat box.

About chess.. no i don't play. I did, wasn't bad for a beginner, but it's too time consuming. Bad time:fun ratio imo.

Funny you should suggest it's not a 'traditional' PC strategy game when it's surely the oldest? ;) That may even go for online play.

Can be time consuming but it can also be played as blitz of course...some play 2 minute games! Most games I play though are 3 days per move. Usually I play about 6-8 games simultaneously.
Of course sometimes both players are online together and you get a reminder when it's your move...great when browsing.
