The WORST cover song?

SS - Comfortable Numb isn't the worst cover ever, nowhere near as good as the original but definitely not the worst cover ever.

Tommy Emanuel is one of the best acoustic guitarists ever.

I vaguely remember seeing either Busted or McFly covering Teenage Kicks at some meaningless awards ceremony, that was truly atrocious. The Pink Floyd techno remix thing flying around at the moment should be an arrestable offence, and the Audiobullys cover of Nancy Sinatra is also another bit of blasphemy. That stupid song that recently sampled Tainted Love winds me up too. Grrr, could go on for hours about nasty covers...

That Scissor Sisters cover earlier in the thread made me cringe, why did they think they could pull off that song? What next, Girls Aloud covering the Ramones, perhaps Westlife doing some classic Metallica or maybe Mcfly attempting a bit of Iron Maiden?

Haleuya <sp> :S my brother!

Since everyone is talking about good covers, try Rodrigo y Gabriellas covers of stairway to heaven and Orion.

Spiderbait's cover of Black Betty is mighty fine.

*n

That is surprisingly good.

Girls Aloud v Sugababes - Walk This Way as mentioned is shocking, Westlifes version of Uptown Girl is dire, oh and the re-recording of Do They Know It's Christmas for Band Aid 20 was unutterably awful. I can't help but feel I'm missing several that are worse but I suspect my mind has blocked them to prevent any more trauma.

House of the Rising Sun - by John Otway. :D

I have a 1" scar on my left hand that Otway did.
I went to see him one night just after he'd split with Wild Willy Barrett and he passed me in the corridor and something on his person gashed my hand.
It all happened so quick and it was my mate who spotted it bleeding. I went up the accident unit and missed the gig :( but I caught him a couple of days later :D

I've still got the first two Otway & Barrett vinyl albums.
Cor Baby thats really free.

That terrible walk this way cover just now is probably the worst ever.
Plus every country song Ronan has ever ripped off. He could maybe sing Iris if he smoked 8000 B&H first and grey some hair on is *****

Best covers ever gotta be
Cake - I will survive
The Gourds - Gin and juice
Smashing Pumpkins - My Blue Heaven

The worst cover I've heard was a doom metal version of Losing My Religion. Don't know the band, but it had me in stitches throughout. They did the whole growled vocals treatment on it, slowed it down even more, and managed to turn a decent song into an utter joke.

As for good covers, the best cover ever has to be Ben Folds' version of Bitches Ain't *** by Dr Dre. Pure genius. I also like the Guillemots cover of 'Never Went To Church' (The Streets) and Elvenking's 'Penny Dreadful' (Skyclad).

Watch the Language!

You are probably on about Ten Masked Men who have done about 4 albums worth of doom metal pop cover songs.
My personal fave is Living La Vida Loca - a snippet - Ten Masked Men - Living La Vida Loca .
