Christmas is coming, marked by the end of the summer games drought and the release of countless games all vying to be under Timmy's Christmas tree on Christmas Day.

I mark the opening salvo in this Christmas war with the release of Halo 3, arguably the earliest game to be released which has the chance of being number one come Christmas Day. From this here is a list pulled from a competitor's website that shows everything from the date of the release of Halo 3 to Christmas. I don't claim it is definitive or correct but it gives us a pretty good idea of what is coming.

Personally I think this is insane: there are simply too many games I want coming out and unfortunately this means some are doomed to only appear on those editorial stories that lament those truly fantastic games that really shine out amongst the others- but sell disappointingly. I think for example the publishers of Army of Two saw the coming flood and wisely delayed until next year.

Opinions and thoughts?

(Note I made this a 360 only list because I believe if I made it multi-format this thread would descend into a format war- please make sure it doesn't)

I think you're right as they had announced a solid release date of November 13th quite some time ago. That's a pretty definite date to drop for reasons of an unfinished game (as normally you'd say November/December 2007 or Winter 07). I can only think the delay is one of common sense. As good as it looks it will be battered by Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Kane and Lynch etc...

Bully - Scholarship Edition

I didnt know about that one, I enjoyed the PS2 version lol.

But same as nokkon, I can see me spending a fair bit once i've got the 360 under my belt

I thought you already owned one wbd?
Did you sell it?

Nah, never owned one. been too put off by the red rings. But that's changing now, Off to buy one as soon as I finish selling some stuff around the flat. :p Mass effect is the kind of game that can make me see past the RROD, That and i'm making sure to buy either an Elite or New Premium, For the extra cooling. fingers crossed it works!

Just incase you were wondering where a lot of my posts on this forum come from :p Thought i should say I've had plenty of play time on both the 360 and PS3 , As my friend has had both since launch, And I'm there nearly all the time :p

Eugh, 3 smileys in 1 post

Ah, I could have sworn you did! I'm confused :p.
You'll have to get one soon and be sure to add me :).

As for the RRoD error, I wouldn't worry too much about it. They aren't as frequent now, and you only ever hear of people saying theirs failed, because after all, why would you make a thread saying "Mine hasn't failed" :p.

Mass Effect is a must buy, might get Lost Odyssey if I can be bothered playing a long JRPG but it's not getting great previews, just a really solid JRPG that does nothing new apparently. Splinter Cell... maybe if gets good reviews and it's better than last years game.

Will be getting COD4 and Burnout for PS3, they both look really solid.

Its bloody crazy releasing that many so soon, they could have easily of staggered them.

I think that's the reason for some delays, but you also need to remember, Christmas is MASSIVE business. The in January price drops happen, so you release a new game at £40 against others that are ~£30.
