Hi am wondering which one is the best one to go for was planning on trying to run 4tb Seagate NAS drives or Red WD drives.

One that ideally supports all p2p methods ie Emule, Torrent, Newsgroups etc

Am looking at the Thecus I like the fact one can plug a tv to it via hdmi port and use it as a pc media player... was looking at the 5550 model with 5 bays, but the Synology Nas drives like the DS413J 4 bay box.

Anyone got any opinions or suggestions on which one to go for ? Or is it best to build your own box?!

thanks checked those Asustor units and they do look very nice, but the thecus seems to be the one with more support and apps and supports all p2p types + 5 bays.... while its around £380 mark I feel it would be a future proof thing, especially if using 4tb Seagate nas drives!

Also has a lovely line in option in case you have any other a/v devices you want to listen through with, am leaning on that one, but I do note the Asus has better design with usb 3.0 on front and usable and one on back and is a better design and more efficient.

Welshdragon:

What are your favorite choice of hdds to use in NAS boxes? I was leaning on those 24/7 nas seagate 4tb drives, seem to be the only ones with a good price/ratio on the 4tbs.

Then again there are some hitachi 4tbs for £115 going but I gather they would fail quickly if there on 24/7!

Thanks saw the review on the new WD 4tb reds, it would be nice to go for those drives since there the top of the top, however those nas seagates are cheaper....

I doubt one could go wrong with either choice frankly.

Was about to suggest the same thing sounds like they were those old fast and hot drives, id wager these seagate nas drives run cool and well.

Those hitachi 4tbs 5900 drives in those enclosures @ 115 quid are also mighty tempting!
