Their selling 7900gts for under £200.....why do they do this to me?

How can I NOT buy another one now? Even including a VF900 and postage it's not going to be £230.

I'll obviously need a bigger monitor as well becuase my single 7900gt already maxes every game i've got at 1600x1200. :(......and monitors are other the major area of specials offers this.

Someone talk some sense into me.....or tell me how good games look at outrageous resolutions.

The sensible option is to stick with what you have, your monitors size means it doesn't need SLi'd graphics card. However where is the fun in that? If you have the money then you might as well go for it, gaming on a huge monitor looks fantastic :D

Oh also do you have a suitable PSU?

I've got a hiper 580w R-type. There are some bad things said about them but they do come SLi certified and a friend runs 2 7800gtxs on one (though he has been getting some odd crashes that I haven't been able to otherwise explain).

sorely tempted to get the 7900GT @ £165 plus vat!!!

OMG - worth the upgrade from 7800GT me thinks?

Unbelievable price. :p Cheap! I sold my 7800GT and got a 7900GT, from my experience it totally outperforms the single 7800GT.

I supposed there's maxed out and then the MAXED out. But with my current overclock I play everything on max settings at that res (though with AF at x8 and 'High Performance' set in the nvidia control panel). The only thing i've not tried that might pose a problem would be Call of Duty 2......and maybe Quake 4 if I wanted X8AA.

And obviously I don't have the problem of having to play Oblivion with both HDR and AA, so you're at a disadvantage there (in an ars about face kind of way) if you're trying to max that out at that res.

how would a x1800xt 512mb @ 700/1700 compare to this card?

It'd be equal or a bit faster in some games and a lot faster in others. It's also do better at higher resolutions.

This of course is assuming that the 7900gt remains unclocked or volt-modded.

And that the X1800 XT remains unclocked and un-voltmodded... ;)

True, but on a point of semantics A2Z did ask for a comparison between the two where he stated that the X1800 would be at '700/1700'.....which negates any need to qualify the ATI card further. :P

Not really. The OcUk one will overclock to that speed more often than not. Though if someone showed me that these cards overclocked better still they might be worth a look (plus you get a game, which I certainly didn't get with my OcUk 7900gt).

so i made a right decision in buying the x1800xt 512mb for £190, and not getting the now cut priced 7900GT?
