I was surprised at the power consumption figures. My memory of my old 480 was that it was a power hungry, hot running beast to be tamed yet they show it to have the same power draw as a 980ti.
My mate had an aging 460, he recently bought another one for £20 and put them in SLI. The 2 460s in SLI play pretty much all the games he wants @ 1080p without problems (Overwatch on Ultra @ 100FPS).
And this is the reason why I'd never spend £500 on a GPU. If you're not going to take advantage of all the extra power at the time of purchase, your money has been wasted.
Price at release
GTX 780 = $650
GTX 780ti = $700
GTX 1080 = $600
That doesn't seem right..
This has been especially true lately as the big high end cards have been released later than the midrange parts, meaning that they have a shorter period of time before they are matched/beaten by new cards costing much less.High-end cards lose value too quickly imo, the mid-range selection better retains value and re-saleability imo.
Wait hang on a minute! Are you trying to tell me that the newer cards are faster? That with each generation the cards get better than the previous??![]()
Don't worry, Nvidia has addressed that by increasing the price of new gen high-end card to higher than previous gen flagship cardThis has been especially true lately as the big high end cards have been released later than the midrange parts, meaning that they have a shorter period of time before they are matched/beaten by new cards costing much less.

I suppose you could buy a Duo if you want the fastest card available, just a little bit pricier than the 1080![]()
Duo in direct comparison looks a bargain at half the price of Nv's last dual gpu the TZ.![]()
Nvidia should be celebrated for their incredible progress as a company and their brilliant products.
No one can doubt that their 80% market share is truly deserved.
The jump in performace is huge, but intresresting to note that the 580 (and to an extent the 480) can still hit 60fps in a lot of modern games!
