I have a Mk3 fiesta without central locking. I want to get rid of the handles and locks and get remote door openers.

What would I need so the doors don't just sit on the latch?

A £100 car with hundreds of pounds worth of pointless styling modifications which do nothing to stop the car looking like a £100 banger.

Why is this a theoretical question?

Anyway, 1'st job get a central locking kit from a thus equipped festa from a scrappys fitted - makes the job a lot easier! and then continue your theory. ;)

"Retail park" cars are not appreciated in this corner......... ;)

Oh I see.

Nah, this is just a project car that me and a couple of mates are using to test various things on so we know how things work when we start working on real cars.

With this door thing, I've can get a remote central locking system, I just can't see how you get the doors to come off of the latch after the lcok is opened.

Isn't there a motor mechanism that flicks the same mechanism as the handle would? Or is there another motor that needs to be linked in that does that job?

From what I can see, central locking, remote or manual, will only unlock the door. They wont actually take it off of the latch and open the door as well, which is why I asked what I would need to achieve this. ;) :)

I know you guys don't like this sort of thing, but if done properly and if you don't go overboard with gadgets, I thinks things like this are ok.

the custom car madheads used to use Jaguar starter solenoids to make the doors jump open enough so you can get hold of the door and pull it open yourself.
this allows you to de-lock and french in the handles.

It's better to use an old thread than start a new one  .

A bit of a hi-jack. But is it actually possible to give a car an aftermarket central locking system?

You need Solenoids. One of the best methods for this is to rob the boot solenoids from a MK4 Fiesta. You can pop these boots open from pressing a button inside the car.

They are an actual solenoid system rather than just a lock release mech which other cars have, plus you are sticking with the family!

yes, but it's a lot of trouble and a lot of work.
unless you REALLY want to i'd forget the idea and spend the money elsewhere on the car.
