Didn't know that so Id be mixing the modules? Why is that?

A 4 slot board has 2 channels, 2 sticks per channel. "Dual channel memory" doesn't technically exist, it is just two sticks that you use in each channel.

For dual channel you want equal amounts in each channel, which in this case, would be 12GB.

I ended up getting a pair of corsair vengeance sticks and using them in combination with my existing ram. Got a total of 24gig now and managed to over clock the whole lot from 1600mhz to 1833mhz. They could probably go higher but im not sure about voltages etc. the vengeance sticks are 1.5v but the originals are 1.65v as standard. I do think its possible to adjust each pair individually on my mother board.
