Right guys this is embarrassing but I could do with a little help on the theory test mainly the hazard video part, I've sat the test twice once last year and one a few months back and failed both times on the video but passed the question part twice with 49. Anyway the first time I tried I only scored 43, I lost points from one clip because of the anti cheat thing even though I only clicked six times throughout the clip. The second time I tried I scored worse as I think I was scared to click too much because of last time.

I think my problem is knowing when to click as I can obviously see what the hazards are but I might not be clicking enough or too late or early. I've been driving cars for over 15 years but when I did the theory test for that there was no video part :)

Its really knocked my confidence as I thought I'd do my cbt pass what I thought was a straightforward test then attempt mod 1 & 2. If you could pass on any tips I'd really appreciate it as at the moment I really can't see me passing unless I keep sitting the test over and over :(
 
Don't worry about it, I clicked loads on mine and was fine, as long as you're not clicking stupidly or in a pattern then it won't fail you.

For £10 you can get the theory test DVD which has a really good hazard perception section. At the end of the test it'll show you where you clicked and where you should have clicked for maximum points.

IIRC each test only has one hazard and you get 1-5 points depending on when you spot it. A couple of the videos have 2 hazards so potential for double points.
 
Treat it as a computer game.
I passed 1st go but had been practicing with a pc version for around a month beforehand.
I had to make myself wait a little before pressing the button because it is quite easy to click too fast and miss the score window...better to get a slightly lower score than jump the gun and click too quick.
It's a game.
I come away feeling very annoyed even though I passed, my thoughts were
" how can you get penalized for clicking too fast - it shows that I have identified the hazard and have reacted like a ninja "

Whereas now I see it for what it truly is...a game that you have to beat to get to the next level.
 
Agreed - it isn't an fps with 'there he is, quick, headshot' needed. Spot the hazard, take a breath, and then click.
 
For my Cat C I was taught well and shown the "scoring windows" that the software uses. It's worth clicking the moment you see a hazard, then once again just under a second later, you'd be surprised how late the "scoring window" actually opens! I found I was clicking before it opened, so although I saw the hazard and clicked I scored nothing as opposed to scoring well if I had been a little slower. It is retarded really.
 
if you have an iOS device theres an Hazard perception app. Think it cost me 99p or 1.69 or something, i.e cheaper than a theory test retest. Just search it on the app store
 
Pretty certain there is no negative marking, it's just if you click too much you lose all points for that clip.
 
cheers for the tips chaps, i did buy a motorcycle theory dvd but tbh the image quality was shocking. the last attempt i did i used the click then wait a second or two and click again

And this. The apps I used for my theory test were both made by CAMRider and I think you can find them on their regular website. I've heard bad things about CAMRider but the apps were fantastic.

Yup, apparently a lot of experienced/advanced drivers struggle a bit with the test if they haven't practised before using that software as they see the hazard well before the window opens. One of the most helpful parts of the theory test success software (I found) was the bit that showed the scoring windows and where you should have clicked for maximum points. Gives you an idea of how slow you can be. I was surprised at how late some of them were for max points.

Shows the test is kind of stupid if you have to use 'workarounds' such as clicking when you see it, then a second later.

I guess it's also to do with the video quality, it's still awful (when I did my bike one a couple of years ago) so you can't see the hazards particularly well in the distance. Some HD videos would be good, then they can improve the scoring window position.

Or even scrap the hazard perception and put it in your driving test, so you could have a 5-10 min window where the instructor would ask you to commentate, point out hazards and say why you're doing what you're doing. I believe they do this in the police driving/biking test? Nothing complicated, just something to replace hazard perception.

Yup if it thinks you're clicking too much you score 0 for that clip.
