There is a distinct lack of new ip's this generation

It's not just games, Call of Duty 6 and Left for Dead 2 are equally matched in the film world with the likes of Terminator 4 and Indiana Jones 4 (not to mention Saw 27). Back to the Future 2 had it right with the Jaws holo-poster. /irony.

Sometimes I feel like writers have burnt out their imagination, driven on by franchises and the need to make money they hasn't got time to develop new IP. Quick buck is king, and new and different ain't that.

Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Skate, Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chronicles, Resistance Fall of Man, Folklore, Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword, Mass Effect and plenty more but im off to bed now. :p

To answer the OP's question,

Not at all am I tired of games this generation,

With the addition of MW2 to my collection things couldnt be any better at the minute!

To me the games that are mention above are just the same old type of game but with a twist or on a grander scale, what I'm saying is that Uncharted to me is Tomb Raider with a bloke, Dead Space is Res in Space, CoD, Battlefield, L4D etc are FPS, Motorstorm's just another racing game, Prototype reminded me of the old Spiderman games, there's just nothing new nothing ingenius all been done before.

Games like Mirrors Edge however is one exception and made me sit up, a bit like when Tony Hawks came out on the PS way back when because there was nothing else that did it, Guitar Hero etc have also done well but now that's begining to become tedius.

When are we going to get something thats new not been done a hundred ways before and is actually good, popular and have replay value?

The problem is Elfmeister, is you're referring to Genres of games. Just like you would be with regards to a move:

For example, Friday the 13th is a bit like Nightmare on Elm Street, as it's a horror.
Waynes World is a bit like Austin Powers.
Rocky is a bit like Raging bull...

I know the above joins are a bit ambiguous, but that's my point. You play a genre of game, just like you go to watch a genre of movie. It's not the idea's behind them, as the majority have already been done (bar a few exceptions), but it's the content within that you go to see.

Res Evil shares a lot in common with Deadspace, however they're totally different in terms of game play, story, location, scenary etc. And that's the key to me.

you could say the same for every console generation :/

if you want something new then buy a wii or something like little big planet. we only ever get 1 or 2 new genres or groundbreaking games a generation anyway

your obvioulsy bored of games so go take up knitting or something

I'm also going to disagree with the original post.
If anything, this generation of consoles has seen the biggest innovations we've seen in gaming for years.

Sure, there are some sequels, but plenty of people have already listed numerous new products. If your talking about games remaining the same type of genre, well how can they really change without some radical way we play games? Ie 3D virtual kind of stuff....

Also bare in mind that this generation has seen the rise of motion activated gaming and new control methods. You only need to look at the success of the Wii and the Hero/Band games to see that.

I'm more than happy with this generation of games.

So many new IPs this gen. I think actually the additional power has led to a lot of innovation and creativity. Coupled with the speed of dev for PSN and XBLA etc means we see a lot more quirky ideas coming out too.
