There is an error on your computer...

' there seems to be an error with my telephone '

oh yes there is some braindead ****wit trying to screw with me and my computer system :p lol

I have had the Microsoft one a few times...i just put my son or daughter on the phone to them.

Its quite amazing how long they are willing to talk to my kids for, my son was talking to one of them for about 7 minutes all about Ben 10, Generator Rex and battle Force 5.

ha good work!

I didn't think nothing of this until I read this thread.

About 2 months ago, I had a phone call from some form of pc virus help line.

They said I had a virus and this would lead to data loss and freezing of the pc.

That same week I had a virus and freezing of the pc. I did a virus scan and found the virus. Did a full format but still got the freezes so i upgraded the ram and it fixed the problem straight away.

But putting two and two together and getting lolkwerk I mean four. I am wondering when I was searching on google did this company steal my IP address and find my number somehow?

I did search for the virus problem and freezing issue.

They started the phone call as

"your ISP has asked us to ring you due to a virus and freezing pc"

Worst is I actually believed them!

But opening up the call with the above is pretty generic and probably effects most people :)

I really want one of these calls :( I want to be able to say "finally, i've been waiting for you to call, i was promised help a week ago. Now tell me what I need to do"

"The man from Windows called today, he said we have a virus and tried to help me get rid of it." Luckily she was too dim to understand what the hell he was talking about :p

She still falls for it even though I explain it's a scam and there is no way Microsoft, sorry 'Windows' will ever cold call them for anything.

I had chekov from star-trek call me a while back saying "My computer has a wirus".. When I asked him to say "Missile" he hung up.. No fun....

Did he say format your HDD & install a Linux/Unix OS instead of Windows.

Windows is a virus made & sold by Microsoft.

My friend text me saying they had been called by a guy about a virus and asked her to pay 70 quid over the phone to fix it. They paid it then went on to give them remote access.

I phoned them right away but it was too late, they had finished messing with her pc.

Does anyone know what exactly they do on the system? They must put something on there otherwise why spend so long faffing about when they already had the 70 quid?

They could put things onto your friends computer to track account details and everything. Didn't see this post but I would recommend not using the computer until properly checked.

They could get everything off the computer, email details, passwords, bank account details, etc.

I would warn your friend if I were you

This happened to my parents like a month ago, gladly they didnt know how to use the computer at the time and knew better not to mess with my stuff :) figured it was a scam anyway but told me anyway just incase!

You should have as much fun as you can with these people.
The last time they rang up I had them on the phone for 40 minutes while I pretended to turn 7 computers on in the house but they all took ages to come on.

Last night I heard the PAUSE and knew I was getting a cold call so when I pretended to go and get my Dad I put a bit of porn on for them to listen to.
