There is hope yet !!

Most jobs will end up like Amazon where people are treated like robots and basically carry around a hand held device telling them what to do throughout their entire shift, there'll probably be information points eventually and communicating with staff will be deemed as distracting workers or harassment. It's all part and parcel of the nanny state wanting to micromanage every aspect of peoples lives, they can't control personal interaction so it will be phased out. There's regulation and then there's totalitarianism.

Well that escalated quickly

You just called out a private company doing private things and you blame the state for it?

Troll. Capitalism unregulated inherently becomes the state when the monopolies run amok, and monopolies run amok because you wont regulate them. So you're really saying you want State capitalism run by Amazon et al, the only commie here is you.

Took me a while to find my way around supermarket, some have good overhead signs others not so much, then of course you need to know what category the item you are looking for comes under.

I think a lot of the replies have lost the plot - I will admit to giving to much background info to the story - Not being able to find what I needed isn't the point - The point is the assistant was amazed that we cooked our own meat - Are the young people of today so stupid they have no idea that people cook their own meals - ?? I bet her meat came between two halves of a bap.
Doesn't anyone on here recognise sarcasm - pee take or wind up ?

I do agree that whatever Lidl or Aldi you go in they are all identical.

Behind the scenes that happens at most of the retailers, etc. that have embraced the digital age i.e. the ones that aren't currently going to the wall. Many of the companies I deal with these days seem to be using voice pick/directing to varying degrees.

For instance
though most seem to be using a better system than that with clearer presentation of information, etc.

Eh TBH I've been there done that kind of job - your brain tends to switch off with the monotony of it all and switching into a higher gear to actually deal with a query can take a moment or two - I doubt it was she was stupid probably just taking a moment to process what you were actually asking - which might have been less clear to another party than you'd think.

I have so much delivered these days that if I've not been into a supermarket for awhile I actually have to take stock of the layout almost as if it is the first time when I do go to one :s

You sure she wasn't just making sure you were looking for raw meat rather than the deli counter/ hot counter?

She is probably aware that people cook.

You expected a snippet of intelligence other than “Yer wot mate?” as a reply, that was your mistake.

No hope for you. :(

I recall being in a supermarket in Baton Rouge, LA some years back, and after wandering the drinks, sodas, squash, and soft drink aisles, I gave up, and asked a thirty something employee, with the supermarket badge and name tag on her shirt, “Excuse me ma’am, can you tell me where I can find tonic water please?”
She looked at me askance, and said, “Tahnic what?”
I patiently said, slowly, “Tahnic water.”
She collared another employee walking by, and said, “Eugene, kin y’all unnerstand this gennulman.”
Eugene tried, but gave up, and handed me a pen and paper, I wrote down tonic water.
They both said, “Oh, tahnic wahder, sorry sir, we’re fresh out.”

Wife and I had to go to the big city near us - Well it's big to us and while we were there decided to do our weekly shop at Morrisons rather than small local one.
Being bigger we had trouble finding things so I asked this nice young assistant "Can you tell me where the fresh meat counter is please" Her eyes went blank for a second then lit up "Do you mean the stuff you cook yourself"- Yes you got it :(

Oh my God

She was probably the store manageress :D

huh, just walk around the outside edge, all the fresh stuff is around the edge, all the garbage is in the middle, every supermarket is the same.

I've just done a mental review of all the supermarkets I've been in and this is true. The things you learn!

She's not stupid. She's subtly rephrasing your request so she can answer it without lying.

These big stores can be confusing, we went in to B&Q and asked an assistant about replacing our patio, he said do you want decking? we just ran out as fast as we could :p

What, as in actual running? You both approached a store worker, asked him a question, and when he attempted to clarify your question you turned around and sprinted off? Both of you?

Where did you run to? Did you leave the store? Did anyone chase you? Bit odd to turn around and run, no?

Did you happen to have a hammer and no nails during this incident?

So many questions

Fruit and veg near the entrance. Meat isles next. Meat counter on the side wall near the meat isles. Cereals / drink / fresh bread all away from the entrance.

Is this not the universal supermarket rule?

Except in Lidi, they seem to put the bread and snacks first!
