There must be another round of austerity incoming....

And how much does it cost to run the systems that administers Tax Credits?

The system is ridiculous, people go to work, pay tax, fill in a form to claim it back, claim is processed, claimant receives money back.

Just don't tax them to begin within, it is such an obvious thing to do.

Not everybody who claims tax credits is paying tax. I suppose raising the threshold for families would be a more efficient way of helping them out. I'd rather see a decent rise in NMW so people can be taken off the benefit all together, I'm sick of contributing to TESCO's wage bill.

Hovered over link, Daily Mail.

Standard angry up the blood click bait nonsense. Dunno what's worse, the cult status they've singled handedly perpetuated for the Kardashians or this tripe.

Seriously, please. Stop posting it here.

Our government are truly the scum of the earth.

I wonder how many invalids and elderly will freeze to death this winter due to their ****ing austerity measures. It's ok though, they'll be sat at home eating organic ****ing turkey expensed to the taxpayer while sipping their vintage champagne and having sex with children.

Scum.

It's just the Tory way of doing things. If you can't pay for *whatever* then go without and get a better job. They don't want the state to pay for anything at all.

By "state" you mean your neighbors, your friends, the guys down the pub, and Steve that bloke who stares at the pigeons in the park all day ever since his wife left him?

Cause the state doesn't pay for anything.

but then labour wouldn't be able to make lots of nonsense jobs up to appeal to idiots.

I believe the worst thing out of a wide choice of particularly unkind acts aimed at those that can least afford it or best defend themselves. And that was the shutting down of the Remploy factories under the guise that the disabled would get better help and opportunities from private companies rather than Remploy. This has not happened. And in fact these private companies are costing far more to the tax payer than the paltry sum it was costing to run, even at a loss, the Remploy facilities.

To see, as I have, lives bought to a standstill with hope shattered by this unforgiveable action by the aptly named 'nasty party' with their weak sidekicks is heart-breaking.

Why don't they bring back the work houses, child labour, sweat shops, after all provided we have companies prepared to do business in this country with share holders reaping rewards of their investments and the economy doing great, so we are told, then all is OK right? Keep wages low, the government will pick up the slack, then they will have to make even more cuts to pay for this but not make tax avoidance harder after all the banks and businesses mike take themselves elsewhere.

I wonder if they are the same businesses that the Tories told us would move abroad in their thousands if the minimum wage was introduced? That did not happen either. The tax system is far to friendly to those that can afford to manipulate the system so why would they move?

Who shut the Remploy factories?

My neighbour hasn't worked in over twenty years as he originally faked injury then became too obese to work. He was saying the other week he needs a new 4K TV to replace his 50" plasma because it's old. Do you fancy buying him one? No? Yet you are happy for the state to take money from you and others and buy him one :P

I don't think anyone with a sound mind would consider that 'The State'

The answer is not to just stop paying tax through, just better management of our tax money on public infrastructure, i think that something that all sides can agree on.

If your house is burning down i hope you realise the fireman rescuing you is being paid by our tax money. Otherwise he might just yell at you from outside the house to make sure you pick up you bank card before he risks his life for you.

I find it hard to believe that without a tax system fire services would cease to exist.

"oh no, we didn't pay tax, now it is impossible to employ people on a subscription or reactive basis to save my home"

What happens to inflation?

Nothing. there is very little evidence to suggests that a moderate increase in wages (or min wage for that matter) leads to a significant increase in inflation.

Wages makes up very little of the cost of a product or service (somehere in the region of 8% for a banking service and 3% of a physical product), so a 5% increase in wages would amount to somehere around a 0.28% increase in the real cost of a product on average. Those services that are affected the most are "direct" personal services with low overheads, such as house cleaners, nannies, etc but they are luxury services and not in the scope of inflation measurement anyway.
