There seems to be an issue with volume amplitude when recording?

I've just noticed this since I started recording Stereo Mix/Wave in Audacity and Camtasia Screen Recorder however Fraps does NOT exhibit this issue due to using some different method of audio capture.

The issue is this, when recording with Windows Master volume set to 50% the recorded audio is at the same volume as I heard it, perfect and exactly how you'd want it.

With the Windows Master volume (either changed on the speaker icon in the system tray or on the keyboard which does the same thing) set to say 25% the recorded volume is halfed.....this occurs regardless of the actual recording level set in Windows/Xonar control panel for Wave Out and Stereo Mix (which are defaulted to 100 BTW).

It seems as if adjusting the master output volume affects the recording volume in sync.

Here's an Audacity recording to show what I mean:

I have my Xonar connected to an amp so it's not a huge issue as I now just set Windows to 50% and adjust master volume on my amp but it does seem like a bug and would be annoying especially for those connecting headphones directly or a DAC no?

I used to use the keyboard volume control as it was most convenient but I guess now I will just have to use the amp's remote instead.

Anyone else able to try this?
