Hi all,

I'm just curious, it is the 1st time i actually change the Cpu cooler on my PC.
I'm gonna use a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 cos i didn't really want to have to remove the motherboard to install a new cooler, and i don't really plan to go on high-end OC either.
It seemed to have good comments on all the forums i checked, and is compatible with LGA 775 socket. I've watched a lot of videos, of wich the ones from homepcbuilder were the most usefull to me.
Any advice is welcome. The cooler comes with pre-applied thermal paste so i won't change this, just had to buy the cleaning pack artic cooling 1+2.
So this is actually my question : once the new cooler is in place, do i have to wait some time before starting the pc again and check the temps ?
Thanks :)

You can start the system straight away but ensure the cooler is mounted securely and you have connected the cooler's fan to the motherboard header :)

Thermal paste can take time to set depending on the type. A lot of thermal pastes are silver and can take a few hours to a few weeks to set staying fairly thin and runny. Diamond thermal paste is fairly new and a lot thicker which takes two hours to set.

Diamond thermal paste has higher conductivity, thicker paste and sets quicker.
Silver thermal paste has lower conductivity, thinner paste and sets slowly.

Although thermal paste might take time to 'set' to it's optimum conductivity it is still fine in most cases to run the computer before it has set. It might just be a couple of degrees warmer for a week or so, will be fine to run.

Yes,mx-2 pre applied on ACF-7,and it is good paste, just make sure you clean all the old stuff off you cpu.

ok job done :)
fantastic change on the noise part... was much less diff than i imagined actually...
Now i'd like to find a soft to monitor temp on cpuk, idle and load, any suggestion ?
thanks :)
