Thermal paste on CPU..

So, i bought a new heatsink and the other one has left thermal paste on the CPU, can i just put the new heatsink on top of it, which would mean the CPU would have the old thermal paste (which is a bit blotchy) and the new one from the new heatsink, or is it best to clean the old thermal paste off? if its bets to clean it what is the best way to do so

Clean the paste off and replace it. Isopropyl alcohol is the best way to go about cleaning it.

Always clean off and re-apply new thermal paste whenever you take your heatsink off.

As suggested, some Isopropyl Alcohol is cheap and can be had from your local chemist.

I've used this for ages and its brilliant.

Hell of a lot cheaper just to get some isopropynol really

Just bought 500ml for £3 ish.

Compare that to those articlean
