Hey guys,

About to replace my 7950x with a 9950x3d, and wondered what everyone's current recommendations are for thermal paste? Usually use Kryonaught, but see there's some new ones on the market that might be better?

There's not a lot in it really, maybe 3-4 degrees C between the worst and the best pastes. Just use what you have, buying something else won't make a jot of difference.

Saying that I tried something new to me when I rebuilt my pc into it's new case last week and I now have a genuine Honeywell PTM7950 pad on my 7800x3d. It's on par with the Kryonaut I used previously but what a pain to use!!

That's just it, I don't have any paste on hand

Main difference between branded ones is durability and easy of application. Used Kryonaut before but depending on the GPU/CPU pump out was an issue after few days/weeks. Application wasn’t as bad as many people say, but that may be different from one user to other. MX6 performs well, os reasonably priced and so far no issues with pump out on GPU or CPU (RTX 4080 and 7800x3D).

Personally I like to buy a big tube of MX-4. It's cheap enough to throw in other people's stuff I'm fixing/temp setups, but good enough to use on my own main computers. So far I've bought two tubes in about 8 years so well worth it.

Dunno if MX-6 is similar in its ease of use and long life.

I bought a 20g tube years ago and it's still absolutely fine, the stuff is hard to beat for the price. An application can last for years too, I very rarely need to reapply any that I've used shy of switching HSF or doing a rebuild.

MX-6 is good stuff too, slightly more difficult to apply and it technically should cool a little better, I just find the differences so minor that I channel my inner tight git and go for the cheaper MX-4.

Same here last forever aswell even doing mates computers aswell.

I've started using AMech SGT-4 but it's early days so hard to tell really. It is cheap though, but seems to perform better than you might expect for the price.
Otherwise my go to is MX-4 or whatever comes with the cooler if it seems reasonable.
I did use PTM7950 when I delided an old CPU a while back and it seems to work quite nicely between the die and heatspreader (not liquid metal good, but...). Tempted to try to get hold of the PTM7950 paste, but like the pads it's very expensive.
