Thermal paste removal

i have been using nail polish remover and cotton pads to remove thermal paste for over 10 years.

i apply a little paste and evenly spread it with card.

Seriously rice sized blob in the middle and let the cooler spread it, i fixed a few PS3 YLOD and spread it with card didn't last over 2 weeks, but the ones i used pea sized its lasted for over six months so i recommend the blob :D

Would also like to know this. I have always spread it out slightly, but have seen quite a few people put just a pea sized blob on and tension up the cooler.

yeah to me that is the best way to do it as you get no air bubbles as long as you keep the cooler firmly placed down, this gives a great connection and therefore better temperatures :D Spreading itself means it goes into all places in contact really.

I go with the Arctic cleaning stuff just because I got some dirt cheap years ago. Still plenty left.

As for applying new paste... I've tried all methods - the tiny dot in the centre, the grain of rice, the credit card, the clingfilm and finger spreading method. Not really if any made a huge difference tbh.

Would be nice to know with SB how the cores sit in relation to the IHS, though. I remember on the Intel Core2Quads, the grain of rice was supposed to go north to south (or so AS told everyone and so I believed...).

Not decided which method to use with my i2500k and Megahalems yet...
