Hi everyone

Never used this stuff before, i have seen how it is done, all it needs is some common sense...

Which should i use for CPU to heatsink and how much should i buy in G

is there anything else i should know and anything else i can cool with various pastes...

Everyone will have their own favourites so if 20 people reply to this I doubt you'll get a clear favourite.

Liquid Pro Metal is popular but it's not traditional thermal compound and I'd be reluctant recommending this to a beginner.

Something like - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=TH-000-ID&groupid=701&catid=27&subcat= - is well regarded and won't break the bank.

As for how much you need depends on the CPU in question really but "not much at all" applies to all of them.

IC Diamond 7-Carat Thermal Compound (1.5g) [4049469107871]

This has 5* on OCuk should i just pick one?

also what else can i use it for? or can i do something else to decrease heat on specific componants

Edit: I was already looking at that diamond when i started the thread.. has good reviews

if i got one of these

Zalman ZM-NBF47 Fanless Northbridge Cooler [ZN-NBF47]

and covered it in paste would it do a better job?

also are these worth the money?

Akasa AK-171 Copper RAM Heatsinks [AK-171]

MX-2 is my favourite, and it's non conductive so it's safe if it gets in the wrong place. Unlike silver/metal compounds. I will be buying MX-4 soon.

Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme - get that it performed best after a recent review by stulid I think on these forums. No point going with opinions just facts I say. They're all cheap enough so may aswell go on facts and what appears to be the best.

EDIT: Have a look yourself

I know some are cheaper or more expensive but does a few quid really matter when talking about something you rarely buy and most people use this on £200 cpu's and £60 coolers.

I'm not hardcore and my system is no where near awesome, i'm fine with a mid range, i'll take all of this into consideration when i upgrade the heatsink

Any ideas on the question above about the Zalman and copper Ram covers

Thanks for pointing that out, similar product to MX-4 so I will try that product when I re-seat D-14 soon. :) MX-4 is out of stock last time I looked anyway and so is that Gelid GC .. :(

are your northbridge temps high?
if not, then dont bother with it imo.
if yes, then it looks ok, u just put a drop underrneath it, like when using on a cpu.
i have never used ram heatsinks, so i cant really comment, but most ram is fine the way they come ;)

i was just looking for a fanless alternative , i wanted to get a northbridge with the zalman because my comp will have 6-7 fans aready so there might be enough flow to cool the cpu

am using Akasa silver paste myself no issues, spreads on well and smoothly but check the review on thermal paste on this section.
