Does the ACF7 come with thermal paste and is it okay or do people recommend anything else that I should buy with it instead?

What CPU are you gonna be using and what kind of overclocks are you aiming for? (if overclocking at all?)

The AF7 is 'ok' in silent mode when running a stock CPU but I don't think its really cut out for overclocking, other people say how great it is but the sample I installed really didn't come close to meeting the expectations I had built up. . .

Okay firstly I'm using an Akasa Eclipse so I assume it will fit pretty much any cooler?
Secondly I'm running an E6600 at stock, may overclock at some point but it wont be for a while at least.
I also want it to run as quietly as possible.

And finally, I will be ordering today so quick suggestions would be great. :p

Has that case got a removable motherboard tray? if so the Tuniq could be a good choice.

I went for the Thermalright Ultra-120 which is also very good, very easy to fit also and needs a tad less space than the Tuniq (I dont have removable/sliding mobo tray).

If on a budget the Thermalright Ultra-90 + 92mm fan of your choice would be a better solution than a AC7Pro . . .

Yeah it has a removable motherboard tray.

Any opinions on the Scythe Ninja as I see that recommended quite a bit.

its a good performer from what ive heard and there is a fair few on here using it.

have the ACF7 which keeps my e6300 @ 2.8 around 33 idle and no higher than 58 load using TAT, but it will never get that hot in dialy usage. as said above, the ACF is an OK cooler, entry level but a good one at that.

Hi hardc0re_tid,

one piece of info missing from your reply was the fan rpm's used, I found the AC7pro really noisy when it was at full whack but extremely quiet at low rpms. Its ability to cool when running at low rpms leaves a lot to be desired. . .

oops, my bad, lol the fan is running at full pelt, iirc its around 2800rpm, noise doesnt bother me

It didn't used to bother me for quite a few years and then I got hit by the silent PC bug (similar to the overclocking bug!).

Just can't stand a noisy system now, apparently its not good for your health long term either!

Just to clarify: If you want a good stock cooler and might overclock later then AC7 is fine however if your really gonna push you Oc'ing avoid the AC7 as you need to run the fan at full pelt not to mention get a good seat. I had to seat my AC7 onto my E6300 8 times before getting decent temps at 400x7 and the fan is belting full speed. But as I play games with headphones on its "what noise? I cant hear a thing with these headphones on" :)

So the best fan for performance and quietness would be?
there is no such thing as best, it will always be a personal choice.

You have the top air-cooling contenders already mentioned in this thread, you can't really go wrong except of course if they don't fit/wedge against something, thats why I went for the Thermalright Ultra-120.
