Thermal paste with stock headsink hasnt completely covered?

Hi all,
currently putting together my conroe rig. I've got the CPU installed, and after many attempts, I finally got the heatsink on - MAN that was tough, I nearly broke the board with the amount of pressure needed!
My problem is that the thermal paste that was supplied on the heatsink has not completely covered the CPU, and there is simply not enough to do so. (it has, however, spread all over the heatsink, but extremely with an extremely thin layer). Should this be sufficient? I reckon only 3/4 of the heatsink actually has paste on it.

P.S. I just took a huge slice out of my finger while removing the I/O port. It wont stop bleeding! heh

with the new heatspeaders on CPUs i like to cover the entire chip with thermal paste to make sure i have enough contact with the heatsink.

The older Socket A athlons, i only used enough to cover the "chip" in the middle.

You only need a thin layer between the heatsink and the heat spreader on the CPU. If you have the heatsink covered, you have that layer. Covering the heat spreader as well will just mean a thicker layer.

With good TIM and a smooth heatsink, the optimal thickness is about 3 thousandths of an inch.

Don't go back in until you stop bleeding - thank how embarrassed you'd be if you shorted your board by bleeding on it!
