thermal paste

Hey guys

I have been looking onto thermal paste and noticed there are different types some with silver particles and some with nano particles.

What is the difference between them and what is the beat one to go for.
 
theres not that much dif between any of them,mainly marketing bull! ive used serveral different brands(mx2,mx4,artic silver,akasa) and cant honestly say i noticed any dif between them except price,i got sucked into thinking the more you spent on it the better it would be,this isnt the case:( .dont spend more than £6/7 on a tube its just a waste.thats mho :)

I found a blog while looking for tips on applying paste and the guy had done tests using all the pastes and also using other things like margarine and jam.

He found only 1-2 degrees difference at idle and 10 under load, more shocking was the fact that jam performed better than a rather expensive brand of paste.
 
Ive always liked mx-2, a personal preference, perfroms well and wasnt too expensive. (a good part of it also was that it was the first paste I bought that came in a practical sized syringe and the viscosity was just right imo)

I wouldn't buy large amounts either, it may seem better value but you dont get through it quick enough and the consistency of the paste deteriorates -runny or thickens.

I think mayonnaise performed better than jam, chocolate didn't stand a chance.
 
there's less than 5C between the very best and other good pastes... you can get that much of a difference by re-seating the cooler a different way - different testers seem to end up with test results that disagree with each other even when they test the same pastes

I personally have found PK-1, Chill factor 3 and either MX-2 or MX-4 to all be very good but I'll be buggered if I can actually prove any difference between them
