thermal work trousers

Builders used to/still do wear womens thick tights under their work trousers just for the warmth.

Chap at work told me that today. Apparently they're very effective. I was surprised - I thought they'd be too flimsy to provide much insulation - but he assured me it works well.

I get thermal long johns as well as thermal t shirts free from work, I always stock up when close to Winter. Fortunately I don't have to stand outside anymore but I'm inside with heating so doubt will have to use them.

Weren't you the chap whinging because you couldn't go for a swim before your lunch break? What do you know about working in cold environments!
Me??!!
No way. That was Scam - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/work-issue-lunch-breaks-would-you-be-annoyed.18858539/
I might have made fun of him in that thread, but that's about it.

As for working in cold environments - How about -7ºC standing temp, having ridden there on an unfaired motorcycle down the motorway at 70mph, for a wind chill around -35ºC.... That good enough? :p

Considering women wear them and nothing else on their legs in winter they must be somewhat effective. Also if you're wearing them under jeans/trousers as is implied by some of these workers it's just another layer, and layers are king.

I had a job to do - Getting arrested for public nudity would not have gotten the job done.
Would you be happy if your house was flooded, and I didn't come fix it because I was busy proving my manliness instead?

I would be sat, soaking wet, safe in the knowledge my plumber was a real man :)

(Assuming you are a plumber of course)

I see... Do you normally hire and trust important work to men who appear very 'real', yet lack enough basic common sense to avoid getting arrested, then?

Nope. I fix sewers... so if you've had to call me for help, you're already in deep ****. Given my areas of specialty, you might also have derailed a train as a result, but fully explaining that would also derail the thread.

Years ago, I worked on a building site on the side of a hill near Consett or somewhere, during winter. It was raw. I'd wear two pairs of trousers, two pairs of socks, vest, tshirt, sweatshirt, then a heavy duty coat and a wooly hat under my hard hat.

It was so cold and windy, one day we lit a fire for our tarmac rakes, and the fire blew away lol.

im going to jump in (going by your 1st post)

Its all about the layering system
get something thats close fitting

when i was cycling / running / hiking / Long walks, i would put a base layer on, if you want something for your legs, same applies, get something like a base layer, but for your legs

dont wear jeans, cord is better, but i would recommend maybe a softshell work trouser and stick some long johns/base layer leggings underneath
