Thermalright Archon AWOL?

You need to ask your question in the Pre-Sales Forum - link - and someone in the know will usually get back to you very quickly during working hrs (my money would be on 5UB)

EDIT:

Research the Silver Arrow, if you haven't done so already...

Same problem tbh, out of stock everywhere.

I think Thermalright must have production or distribution problem of some sort. It always happens, their most popular products go out of stock for long stretches.

I'd get a Cogage Arrow and a couple of decent fans, or a Prolimatech product of some description, Megahalem, Armageddon, Panther etc.

Speed is right they do have a habit of disappearing for a week or so.

Try a post in the Pre-Sales Forum - link - and ask for a lead time on the Silver Arrow. You should get a reply very early tomorrow morning giving you an ETA (their ETAs are usually pretty accurate).

I put in a similar request a few months ago and only had to wait a few days for more stock to arrive.

Longer than a week in my experience, think they've been out for nearly a month now unless some came in and sold quickly.

Most places have an overdue ETA as well.

Ouch, doesn't sound encouraging - although i've pre-ordered HW from OcUK in the past and it's been sent out as soon as they've received stock but their website still showed no stock/ETA.

I'm guessing that they had sold the whole ordered stock before they had received it - in which case it may still be worth a forum note as he could pre-order and be guaranteed (hopefully) the part as it arrived.

It's a shame as it's a bargain premium cooler.

I am getting very nice results on my archon with it's ty-14 fan pushing and an old akasa amber 120mm at 75% pulling.I'll try 2x ty 14 when they get back in stock had to send mine back was a ticker.I want to try the 140mm akasa vipers or apache blacks on it.It's a great cooler I think people get put off by charts I'd like to compare against someone with a silver arrow or d14 on a core i5 750/750 but it's hard to find reliable readings.

Bare in mind this was done during the mini heatwave shall do another 51 runs x 2 soon. This was the hottest of the 51 pass runs majority of time all cores were sub 70c.

Christ, IBT is brutal did your CPU slight you in some way to deserve that abuse? ;)

This isn't the comparison you need/want but you may be interested:

My SA sat on a 2500k @ a modest 4.4GHz (but low voltage) was only hitting ~60 degrees during the summer using small ffts. My fans, at the time, were set at 50% and only span up to 100% when temps hit 60 degrees (which took about 15 minutes)...

I'm afraid i didn't do an IBT test as my clock was set up perfectly before I got the SA but i would imagine the temp would have crept up another few degrees.

I'm experimenting between 4.6GHz and 4.8GHz at the moment - just for sake of testing - if i get time over the weeekend (possibly next week) i'll run 20 passes of IBT and post some results for you if you're interested?

OCUK reply for everyone else -

Good morning,

These are end of life now and we are unable to get any more stock of these. They were great coolers, but not sure why the stock has vanished.

This is a great cooler, it is quite a weird design so you need to check to see if it will fit with your system, but it is very effective, you will need fans with the heatsink as they are not included.

Is that in response to the SA? If so that's an insane decsion by Thermalright unless they have another premium cooler at a great price about to be released...

What cooler was the link for (it links to the components home page)?

That was in response to the Archon I suppose but the SA is out of stock everywhere too so maybe it applies to both!

The cooler linked was - Prolimatech Genesis Mega Performing CPU Cooler
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-011-PL

Which does look as though it performs decently although im not sure i like the fact it covers the RAM.

If i'm getting the 16gb corsair vengeance for my system i worry the heatsinks will be too high over the ram for the cooler to fit.

It's similar in performance to the SA but the fans are an expensive extra which is where it falls down slightly in reviews as it becomes expensive in comparison. But the bonus for you is that it can tolerate high profile memory.

EDIT: Have you considerd a Noctua NH-U12P SE2?
