Thermapen

I got one for around that a month or so back - amazing price and everyone should have one!

You can get them even cheaper at times refurb on their ebay store.

Was gonna say I'm sure I paid less through the ebay store.

I've had quite a few temp probes and most have broken fairly quickly. This has been great.

Thanks, picked one up. :)

I see there's also a "Maverick ET732 Long Range Wireless Dual Probe Meat" for £44.99 at the moment.

How useful are they for steak? I'm pretty good at getting my steak right through touch/practice, but I'm a bit dubious how decent a reading you could get from a steak whilst it's sat on my screaming hot cast-iron skillet? Or is that not how you'd use it?

I do have a cheap temperature probe that works great for roasts etc..

For anyone that hasn't heard of these, they're the ferrari of temperature probes. Made in the UK, very fast and accurate readings and they're widely used all around the world.

I wouldn't be without mine.

Depends on many factors, thickness, whether its under foil etc.

You'll learn the right temp to take it off for your required post resting cookness though :)

Thermapen arrived. Bigger than I expected from the pictures. Temp reading is ultra fast. Came with individual calibration certificate. Good piece of kit!

even the cheap ones seem to work fine imo.

tested the one I used to have with boiling water and the temp in my fridge. (fridge has a digital temp readout)

seemed spot on and I think it was like 6.99
