Watching LOTR TFOTR at the mo (because im a billy no mates with naff all better to do this saturday night :p) - and I was just thinking how much I love the Moria sequence; the noise the troll makes as it dies, the orcs spilling out of the roof and clambering down the pillars.... the Balrog...
Especially the Balrog!

So what's your favourite scene/line/whatever?

"A Balrog, a demon of the ancient world. This foe is beyond any of you, RUN!"

The closing credits that mean it's all over and I can get back to my life that was so rudely interrupted by such a dire trio of flims.

The best scene in the whole trilogy is Gandalf's fight with the Balrog at the start of the Two Towers.

Surely only an idiot would watch 2 and 3 if they hated the first one?

Moria is my favourite scene also. Exactly how I imagined it when reading the book. Just a shame they couldn't get across how long they were supposed to be down there for. I love the Moria parts of the soundtrack, especially The Brige of Khazad-Dûm which just fits the scene perfectly.

LOL - absolute classic.
I hate this first film of three so badly.
It lasts for 3 hours and as far as I'm concerned it is the worst film I've ever seen - it is just dire.
In fact it is so dire, so rubbish and so much a waste of my time I think I'll....

....waste another six hours of my life watching parts 2 & 3 :-/

How long are they supposed to be there, I cant remember.

I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass.

I do prefer the book speech to the film. Shall not is a challenge, cannot is a FACT.

Also, the Bakshi animated version final battle pwns anything from the recent trilogy. When Gandalf comes back to save Theoden, then the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Also, the chase to Rivendell is much better for not having a female Rio Ferdinand coming in unnecessarily.

Does that stretch to the Star Wars prequels? If so, I'm guilty.

The best part of the LOTR films for me is probably Theoden's speech before leading the Rohirrim in to battle at Minas Tirith.

This is my main gripe with the films. They never really got the distances and time involved in the fellowships journey across to the viewer. At least in my opinion. And the second half of the first film (extended edition) is by far away the best ninety minutes of the whole trilogy.
