They have a cave troll....

Lutz, like Count Grishnakh is shown in the films as a 'hero character' but not named because naming requires an introduction and introductions hinder the flow of prose. Especially when dealing with 'dark' characters.

I liked them chasing the orcs at the start of the second book when I read it but I don't think it came across as well in the film. In the book I was excited and had to keep reading to find out.
I also thought the spider woman thing came across much better in the book.

In the film my favourite bit is probably when the knights of gondor are retreating and gandalf rides out to meet them with his staff lit up.

For scenery I think Moria is the most stunning bit. Although I think the bit with the ghosts (in the caves) had the potential to be the most stunning part of the film but it was very short.

In the extended edition its a lot longer (atleast twice as long) but i wasnt particluarly fond of the additional footage. The extended scenes in that part were the only cgi parts in the entire trilogy i thought were poorly done

i watch the third one the other day - the extended edition, and it HAS to be when all is going wrong at the battle of pelennor fields and then you hear the horns of rohirrim!!

makes me tingle and want to run around with a sword killing orcs!!

Also in the second film, when the elfs are marching up to helms deep, thats brilliant

Prologue - goblin/orc charge meets a wall of elves, where they do the funky move with their blades and cut them down.
Also, Sauron battering men and elves with his mace. (...no obscene thoughts please)

I used to watch it pretty often when I first got the extended versions of the trilogy. But seeing the spoof of it on "how it should have ended .com" has utterly ruined it for me !! :D

Went to see the Lord of the Rings symphony too. Howard Shure = Legend.

Two bits the bit where Sean Bean has just attacked Frodo in the forest (just before the Urki turn up) he slips us after Frodo hits him and starts sniviling and saying sorry to Frodo (who has used the ring to hide by then)... This is the bit i like... where Sean seems to get leaves in his mouth and chokes, it makes his sniviling acting all the better. - I also find it very funny.

There is also a bit when Sean Bean is running to save Pippin and Merry, there is a slow mo bit where he use's one of his hands to hit a bush when he runs by. Just seems very funny when i watch it.

the horns of the rohirrim as they come over the hill to join the battle of pelennor fields in RoTK is possibly my favourite moment of any film, the spine tingly feeling as they charge.

there you go

"Ride now, ride now, ride, ride for ruin and the world's ending!" Forth Eorlingas.

Amazing films, not as good as the books but that would be impossible.

Agreed, one of the best scenes of any film I've ever seen.

Honourable mention to Moria and the Balrog aswell, fantastically realised.

Boromirs battle was quite gripping, but just before that...

"I would have gone with you to the end, into the very fires of Mordor"
"I know."
and then he walks toward the sixty odd UrukHai all calm and deadly....
Aragorns my hero :D

I thought Boromir's betrayal/death scene was the high point of the films, very very well done.

Either that, or "I am no mere ILLUSIONIST!", a point he proves by... er... making the room seem to get dark, and looking a bit taller. This is not a trick...

I'm talking about the Ralph Bakshi version, with John Hurt as Aragorn. Brilliant.

There is no better animated/rotoscoped film.

hrm? wasnt it a sortof botched version? originally was supposed to be 3 of them. They only did one and compressed all 3 books into the one? Its been a long long time since ive seen it though.

What i'm saying is though...i thought the end of the film was a bit botched because it ends halfway through the whole story (the trilogy) or something...

The whole death of Boromir scene gets me everytime, totally redeems himself and dies.

Thought he was treated shoddily and at times quite crudely by the films. At times in the films its like he's an outcast and the great betrayer of the fellowship (Judas). Its like hes the black sheep that no-one really likes or accepts in the fellowship but when he dies for them at the end they 'forgive' him lol.......

That isnt the impression you get from the books. The ring corrupts all near it not just Boromir yet the film makes out that its only Boromir that "falls" They probably did this for dramatic effect i suppose.

Yeah they ran out of cash and the money never came for it. Shame as it is excellent.

They didn't compress all three though, it gets to around halfway through the second phase.
